Sharkbait’s Cocktail of the Week: That’s My Raiders Request Line!

With apologies to Rikki for using two of his recurring post titles but I can’t think of anything better to set up this week’s drink. Let’s set the scene:

Wednesday, October 2nd. I’m going to check the mail, and go downstairs to the front to find a package with my name on it, from an unknown sender. Bringing it in and opening it up I found a few items individually wrapped, along with a note:

Unwrapped the other items in the box resulted in this:

Along with a recipe for the Woodson Corner Blitz:

I cannot thank Blax enough for this package out of the blue. So, as requested, here is the Woodson Corner Blitz:

Fairly neutral aroma, but I do pick up some of the chicory bitters. It definitely helped that I smelled those on their own to get a feel for what they brought to the equation. The bitters adds its breast/earthy aromas to the drink

Oh this is excellent. It’s well balanced, and not very strong at all. In fact, It’s very hard to taste the booze here. It kind of sneaks up on you, much like a corner blitz does…

Sorry, I had to do it. Anyway, the whiskey flavors do shine in through eventually, but any hardness of the spirit is restrained by the ginger ale. Again, not a bad thing at work here. The ginger ale itself plays well with the bourbon as expected, but not having used the chicory pecan bitters I wasn’t sure what to expect, and im happy that it is a good match. One I would like to explore more in the future.

This weirdly seems like a guilty pleasure, but I’ve always liked a good whiskey ginger. This drink is certainly one of them. The bitters adds a nice touch to really make this one stand out against others I’ve had, and definitely will keep this in mind when I have ginger ale.
