Balls of Steel’s AFL Beat – Round 2

Typical Friday night

Unfortunately, I got sick this weekend, so I wasn’t able to watch any of the matches.  It’s a good thing too, because boy oh boy Geelong is sucking the royal balls!

This week’s loss to Fremantle is worrying.  Two straight blowout losses is not a good start to the season.  If things don’t improve, I may be cheering for the AFL equivalent of the Bucs.

Here are the rest of the results:

So far, Adelaide look to be the best team in the league. Hawthorne lost a close one, but are probably better than the rest of the unbeatens.  If you click on the link, you will see the headline of the year.  We all need more Hooker heroics in our lives.  Let’s watch them on video:

It is interesting to note that there are only 5 unbeaten teams after two rounds, which speaks to how even the teams are.  After next week, we may only have one or two unbeatens.

Let’s take a look at the standings, shall we?

One thing you will notice is that they call the standings the Ladder. That makes sense since teams try to “climb the ladder” to success.  Also, it is sponsored by a company that makes ladders.  Corporate synergy!  I’m surprised Goodell hasn’t gotten in on this prime sponsorship opportunity!

Another thing you will notice is that they use a percentage to distinguish among tied teams. This percentage is based on the number of points you score divided by the number of points your opponents score. It’s actually a great metric since it essentially says that a 5 point victory in a low scoring game is more important than a 5 point victory in a high-scoring game. Yet another thing that makes a lot of sense that the NFL should implement but probably won’t!

Apologies for the abbreviated post, but I’ve been in bed all weekend and not the fun way.   See you all next week!

Balls somehow lost his bio and didn't realize it. He's now scrambling to write something clever and failing. He likes butts, boobs, most things that start with the letter B, and writing in the Second Person. Geelong, Toluca, Barcelona, and Steelers, in that order.

So this is what goes down in Middle Earth…

Old School Zero

One ring to bind them to the field.

Old School Zero

“And now, your NFL standings brought to you by Cialis”

That would have happened years ago, if not for the fact that there’s no way the NFL or its sponsors will actually acknowledge sex (despite using it to sell, sell, sell!).

Good on ya for fighting through the pain to keep this going. Total grititude. Feel better soon!
