Request Line: Finals Week

INT. RECORDING STUDIO – DAY

Once again, all the lights are once again burning brightly.  Though, as usual, it remains completely silent.  DJ 3000′ boots up…

…to see HUNTER RENFROW once again sitting on the couch, with a textbook in his lap.  This time, however, HUNTER RENFROW doesn’t look nearly so relaxed.

DJ 3000′: THE FINEST OF DAYS TO YOU, GOOD SCHOLAR.

HUNTER RENFROW: [glancing up from his textbook] Hey.

DJ 3000′: YOU’VE BEEN STUDYING ALL WEEK.  ARE YOU READY FOR FINALS?

HUNTER RENFROW: Well…no.  I’ve got Trigonometry on Monday, English on Tuesday, World History on Wednesday, and Biology on Thursday.

DJ 3000′: AND YOU’VE GOT REQUEST LINE…TODAY!

HUNTER RENFROW: Ah frack, is it time already?

DJ 3000′: IN FIVE MINUTES, YEAH.  AND WE STILL NEED A TOPIC.

— [desktop computer monitor flies open] —

GHOST OF JIM IRSAY: [blurts out, as if he as just woken up from a dream] We can do drugs.

HUNTER RENFROW: Huh?

GHOST OF JIM IRSAY: Drugs. Let’s do drugs.

DJ 3000′: WE’VE ALREADY DONE DRUGS AS A TOPIC.

GHOST OF JIM IRSAY: [confused] Topic for what?

HUNTER RENFROW: Request Line.

GHOST OF JIM IRSAY: Oh, right, the radio show. Yeah man, you gotta have tunes to go with the gear. It’s like milk and cookies.

HUNTER RENFROW: I’m kind of swamped; I haven’t have time to think of a topic.  Can we just run another NFL division?

DJ 3000′: WE CAN’T RUN DIVISIONS TWO WEEKS IN A ROW. WE NEED SOMETHING ELSE.

GHOST OF JIM IRSAY: [noticing Hunter’s stack of textbooks] Hey what’s with all the books, egghead?

HUNTER RENFROW: I’m studying for final exams.

GHOST OF JIM IRSAY: Well why don’t we do that?

DJ 3000′: STUDY FOR FINAL EXAMS?

GHOST OF JIM IRSAY: No, we can use “final exams” as a topic.

DJ 3000′: ARE THERE ANY SONGS ABOUT THAT?

GHOST OF JIM IRSAY: Well…probably not too many.  But there are plenty of songs about “final” things.  And a few about “tests” and stuff.

DJ 3000′: [engages “shrug” module] SURE, WHY NOT.  HUNTER, IS THAT COOL WITH YOU?

HUNTER RENFROW: [nose still buried in textbook, waves hand] Fine by me.  Maybe let’s make it “finals week” and include songs about being stressed, too. And then what comes after.

DJ 3000′: GRADUATION?

HUNTER RENFROW: Or, you know. Not.

DJ 3000′: THAT’S A GOOD IDEA.  ALL RIGHT, IT’S YOUR SHOW, JIM.  GOT ANYTHING TO GET US STARTED WITH?

GHOST OF JIM IRSAY: Let’s roll with a DOUBLE SHOT of a little Europe, and some Chemical Brothers.

HUNTER RENFROW: [glances up] Actually, it doesn’t count as a DOUBLE SHOT if…

GHOST OF JIM IRSAY: [interrupting] Pipe down, Poindexter! Save the technicalities for the rules committee meeting, it’s time to ROCK.

Today’s theme is “Finals Week”.  We’re looking for songs that have anything to do with the last week of school, including things that are final (last, ultimate, concluding, etc.), have something to do with an exam (tests, quizzes, passing, failing, etc.), as well as songs about being stressed (nervous, worried, etc.), and songs about what comes after (i.e. graduation).
