Welcome all to the first NFL Sunday of the year. It’s been about 7 months since we had one, so savor it.
College football Saturday featured some ranked teams falling to unranked ones, most significantly the Central Michigan Chippewas over OK State. Big 12 is having a rough start to the year, having 3 ranked teams lose to lower or unranked opponents. However this week was the prototypical early season beatdowns, where the big programs throttle outclassed non-conference cupcakes. Not many memorable games for this week.
Here are the updated television broadcast maps courtesy of 506sports.com.
We have 13 games for today including the national Sunday night game, unfortunately the NFL still prefers to frontload the early slot, so we have a 9:3 split there. I’d say Cincy-Jets is the class of the early games based on how both teams did last year, although that is a poor metric, but alas we don’t have too many reliable gauges of quality this early in the season. The NFL is also prescribing it’s weekly ration of over-exposed NFC East broadcasts in premium times. We get it, they’re all big market teams, but christ has that division been middling, they don’t always have to grace us with their presence at 4PM or the night game.
We do have the glorious return of the Minnesota Middle Finger, my favorite broadcast map element. Behold it’s passive-agressive glory in all its splendor. Marvel how it quietly judges you.
No Carl’s Stone Cold Lock of the Century of the Week was posted as I wrote this. I hope that feature has not been discontinued. If one goes up in time, I’ll post it.
Enjoy the games you reprobates.
