Following Sexy Friday, I hereby dub today Hexy Saturday. I know we’ve got some puzzle enthusiasts here at DFO, so this brain buster is right up that digital alley. Hexcells Infinite is the PED super-boosted cousin of Minesweeper. This ain’t Eli’s color-by-numbers. It has a relatively simple concept, find all the blue cells, eliminate all the yellow cells. You’re given basic information: how many blue cells surround black ones. Seems simple right?
But this game quickly evolves into a headscratcher that gives you an idea of what CTE is like. Later on the information you’re provided extends to the number of blue cells in a row (in 3 directions), or number of cells in a two hex radius around a cell, or even the pattern in which the cells are. I mean look at this shit. I felt like Trent Green for 15 minutes the first time I tried to solve this one.
Some of the logical leaps you have to make to advance…. Let’s just say even Ryan Fitzpatrick would be stumped on occasion, and he went to school someplace fancy I think. Can’t recall where exactly, but yeah. Hexcells Infinite will make you feel dumber than Pete Carroll’s short yardage play calls. Then you solve one and you feel like the smartest motherfucker on the planet. After you’ve beaten the 50 or so crafted levels of the game, there’s even a random puzzle generator that can help fill those empty, soul-sucking voids of non-football we have to deal with every week.
So [DFO], what’s getting your drive hard this weekend?
