The Wednesdayer (S1, E9 – Cool Off)

Tyrel Jackson Williams: Good day all and welcome to another The Wednesdayer. Now, after last week focused a little more on the residential and home improvement portion of our topics list, I thought it might be nice for our listeners to have us circle back to some of the larger projects and trade tricks Peter may want to speak on. Now, I understand the Raiders just hit a milestone with their $2 billion new stadium in Las Vegas and you had been out there with Mr Mark Davis and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

Peter King: Warm one today.

Williams: Warm? Today?

King: Yeah, it’s hot. Summertime.

Williams: I, uh….

King: Got that sum sum sum summertime, summertime sadness. Sum sum sum summertime —

Williams: Did you turn on the A/C?

King: Can’t. Don’t got one in here.

Williams:  You don’t have air conditioning? Why not? Buy a unit.

King: Yeah, I’ll just buy a unit! I’ll just order up some bigass 13 SEER bastard and drop eight grand because that would be a good idea!

Williams: I meant like one of those window units.

King: Oh yeah, that’s a good idea.

— Door Flies Open —

Chris Blewitt: You don’t want one of those window units. With all the advances in interior climate control technology, wall units are the superior option in terms of efficiency, air management, and, in my opinion, aesthetics.

Williams: Former Bears camp kicker Chris Blewitt?! What brings you in today.

Blewitt: Well you know, I initially earned the praise that I have ice running through my veins in 2016 when I kicked five game-winning field goals for the Pitt Panthers, including converting a 48-yarder with just six seconds left to secure the only win against Clemson, who would go on to be national champions.

King: Here to make an ad placement then? Who ya like? Carrier? They’re keeping all their jobs in the US, as promised.

Williams: That is not true.

Blewitt: Well Carrier does have a speckled history since their founding in 1904. But, no, I’m here because the air and cooling game has been good to me while professional kicking opportunities have gotten fewer and further between.

King: Yeah, you should have made those kicks for the Bears. You know, a lot of people don’t think much of offseason workouts but I think it’s a very important part of the season because coaches can try out guys for the roster and start to get a feel for which guys they want to bring into camp.

Blewitt: Nonetheless, I think it’s important to consider the various improvements to air conditioning technology since mass production began nearly a century ago. Now we have various options with considering for dehumidification, ductless systems, and zone control.

Williams: Well, if we’re looking at the typical June unit purchaser —

Blewitt: Right right. Someone who probably lives in a climate that doesn’t demand central air and they’ve been waiting and waiting for the summer heat to break but it just hasn’t. Now they want just a economical option to keep their bedroom cool at night so they can get some sleep. Something like that.

King: It’s hot in the studio. Now, my Manhattan flat utilizes a centralized climate control unit but, yeah, when I’m on the road to coastal climates, I often wish there were some sort of cooling options on my stays to Miami, LA, or San Diego.

Williams: San Diego?

King: For baseball. They didn’t make the right civic moves to maintain an NFL presence, remember?

Blewitt: So my recommendation — and take it for what it’s worth — is to go with a ductless system. You lose 25% of your energy to ductwork right up front so this is much more efficient. Not only that, you may be eligible for Energy Star incentives for purchasing a qualifying model.

Williams: But are there cons to this system, relative to just getting a cheap window unit, for example?

Blewitt: Well sure, if you’re a cheap bitch then you may not like the price tag. But, I say, if you’re in a place where all you need is a window unit then you probably want that window to be functional as well. With a ductless option, you’re only drilling a small hole and then mounting up the unit anywhere in the room. This minimal intrusion is also great for renters.

King: Sounds like a good option for a guy who only lasted a few weeks kicking at OTAs.

Blewitt: Seriously? I’m trying to help you out here and —

King: But you missed kicks, you know. I guess you kind of —

Williams: Are you seriously —

King: Kind of….blew it!

Williams: Chris, I am so sorry.

Blewitt: That’s alright. I hadn’t even thought of that joke. Very funny.

Williams: So what do you recommend, in the little bit of time we have left here, for cooling a room or so?

Blewitt: Oh, well I like the Pioneer Mini-Split. It’s ductless, got a wireless control feature, and has a 9 SEER heating efficiency in addition to 17 SEER cooling.

King: Far cry from from the $1400 one might spend on a Wall Master Series.

Blewitt: Far cry indeed.

King: Yeah — real far.

Blewitt: Yep……very far.

King: Quite. Quite far.

Blewitt: Yeah, between those two. That’s a lot.

King: It’s far.

Blewitt: It is.

King:…..

Blewitt:….

Williams: Okay!  So that will do it for this week. Maybe next time we’ll get into Peter’s visit to the new Raiders Las Vegas stadium. Then again, maybe not. See you next time, on The Wednesdayer.

[…] The Wednesdayer (S1, E9 – Cool Off) – June 26, 2019 […]

That’s really sound advice on AC. Most people don’t understand that technology has improved a TON and figure a cheap windowbanger is the way to go.

$700 for the Pioneer is nothing compared to the energy savings.

BrettFavresColonoscopy

Peter King is worse at his job than Bears kickers are at theirs, and that is indeed saying something.

SonOfSpam

Chris Blewitt knows more about AC than OJ Simpson.

Do we get hits for people looking for promo codes? Have never needed anything listed, want to try it out.

Unsurprised

There’s probably a bot that scrapes any promo code automatically, so there’s a non-zero chance someone has seen if not tried the codes.
