Yesterday was another lesson on something that I am still personally working on: The Late Swap.
Close to the start of the 4PM games, I had a lineup in a large field gpp that was top 100. I had one player to go…Antonio Gibson. Since he was going to carry ownership, I made the decision to swap him out for George Kittle, who had a potential ceiling game with significantly less ownership. While I didn’t win the whole thing, I came pretty damn close…
My Best Performing Lineup (224.32)
Brady Conner Montgomery Godwin Waddle Reynolds Gronk Kittle Colts |
One Winning Lineup (237.72)
Brady Conner Montgomery Godwin Renfrow Gage Kittle Michel Dolphins
|
Another Winning Lineup (233.18)
Herbert Mitchell Montgomery Van Jefferson Pittman Godwin Goedert Kittle Colts |
The lineup in the middle is the top scoring lineup in a multi-entry contest while the one on the right, which scored less points but still won, is from a single entry contest.
The main piece that you ultimately needed to have yesterday was George Kittle, and I am thanking myself big time for pivoting off Gibson (30% owned) and going Kittle (6%) instead. The reason behind the play is Game Theory. Jamaal Williams was 22% owned in gpp contests yesterday. In my article I said I would prefer to just pay $200 more and get to Montgomery for the sole reason that he would be lesser owned. I applied the same tactic when making the decision to move to Kittle. Yesterday it worked out.
Week 13 did end up being a day where you needed to pay up at QB. That being said, my Taysom Hill lineups are still in play going into tonight where I am hoping for the Patriots defense to be the Bills worst nightmare. Unfortunately though, I do not have Kittle in that lineup so I doubt I will be making anything significant. I’ll take another look at QB scoring going into week 14, but I’m glad I stuck to my guns about Brady and made a few lineups that featured a Tampa stack. My Minshew, Roethlisomething and Tua lineups basically did what I thought they would, but with Brady, Herbert, and Kyler (1% owned) having good days, the low priced QBs were not the proper path. The proper path to winning was indeed a game stack scenario…Brady plus Godwin and then a run back with Gage. That being said, I did not have Gage anywhere and overly forced Patterson into my builds.
Other Takeaways
Lol Vikings….but Amon-Ra “Sun God” St. Brown? Really? Couldn’t have been the week I was all over you huh? The Sun God was 1% owned yesterday, and I’m shocked he was that high…but it proves my point that the Viking secondary can be had by damn near anybody. If I had you in there instead of Reynolds then I would be significantly richer this Monday, but thems the breaks.
Hey, Sean McVay!!
Henderson dressed and didn’t see the field once. While I didn’t do anything egregious like play Henderson, I pivoted off Michel to Desean Jackson in many spots, costing me a better overall day. Why are you dressing someone who isn’t going to see the field, Sean???? I hope Kyler and the Cardinals curbstomp you next Monday.
I didn’t play Josh Jacobs anywhere. He was 1% owned and was featured in the passing game specifically. I did not see that coming, but might be something to monitor in terms of HC Bisaccia beginning to add some wrinkles to the Raider offense.
I had too much Miles Sanders yesterday. In some lineups I went with Gainwell instead as the Eagles have a track record of fucking with my universe when it comes to their ground game. Sanders had 20 DK points while Gainwell had 20 DK points so ultimately this backfield was not overly helpful. Imagine if one guy got all the work though.
I was initially very mad at myself when Goedert secured his second TD of the game. In most of my Minshew lineups I played him naked, but in the ones in which I stacked him, I used only DeVonta Smith.
It would have been nice to play the .5% owned Chargers Defense yesterday.
The WFT defense played solidly vs the Raiders, but did not really put up the necessary pointage. Defense is a crapshoot and I’m starting to get on board with members of the industry who want this position to go the way of the dinosaurs.
Overall I’m pretty happy with my player pool, their performances, and the majority of my decisions. I do need to be better and will hope to do that as early as Week 14!
I’m on board with the no defense thing, even for season long fantasy. I’ve got a league were it’s IDP, and trying to figure out who is going to be good on any given week is total luck.
Good show, Imaginary not-really-Russian pal! Cash is always good.
