So apparently Kevin Smith (the filmmaker, not the former Lions running back) suffered a pretty serious heart attack on Sunday. He was brought to Glendale Hospital which is a stone’s throw away from where I live. It’s so close that I even thought about walking the short mile over to the hospital to pay him a visit. And while Kevin Smith clearly appreciates spending time with his fans, for a fan to do something like that would undoubtedly be against his wishes. I’m talking about “walking a mile,” of course.
In reading up on Kevin Smith’s condition, I encountered this video of him offering his thoughts (a full ninety minutes worth of thoughts – curiously at about 1:21:45 he has a few thoughts on his own mortality) on Star Wars: The Last Jedi. One of the things he keeps coming back to is his appreciation of the times the director Rian Johnson shows him something he hasn’t seen before. Which brings us to my favorite pick from last week: Senor Weaselo’s selection of Mitski’s “Your Best American Girl”. I’ve never heard it before, and I really like it.
