When I was younger I always did what I thought was expected of me. Both as a child and a young adult. Believe it or not, I was very shy back then, and not outspoken.
I did what I was told…more or less.
And don’t get me wrong, at this point I’m not placing blame. I made those decisions…especially once I was a young adult. That’s on me. But for a while, admittedly, I held some resentment to it. But that’s not healthy. I don’t do that anymore.
Even as recently as a decade ago, I was doing what everyone else thought I should. Which mostly boiled down to “Play It Safe”.
Fuck that.
There are a lot of things I never did, or never experienced because of that advice. But I take chances now. I try to learn. I DO WHAT I THINK IS RIGHT.
I put myself out there and meet people. Though admittedly some turn out to not be worth effort.
Still though, that doesn’t matter. I try to find new experiences. I try to find new people who enrich my life.
We all fall into ruts of comfortable from time to time. It’s easy. But it’s not rewarding. Especially as you get older. Life is short, don’t waste it.
If you take a chance and fail, who cares? But if you take a chance and succeed, the feeling is unparalleled.
Get out of your comfort zone. Life isn’t comfortable no matter what. It often sucks. But seize it, and take control of it.
You never know what you can accomplish until you try.
Challenge yourselves to be the best you can be. Because all of us have something to offer. It might not be world changing. But it might change the life of one person. Or two. And that’s still pretty good.
I truly wish I had learned that lesson earlier in my life. But I’m gonna make the most of the time I have left.
I hope you will too.
