Your “Weekend At Donnies” Saturday Evening Open Thread

The fact that I now know this means Seamus is still trying to inflict his musical stylings on me from beyond the grave: Apparently, it’s a “thing” for newbie idiot Green Day listeners to tweet at Billie Joe Armstrong on October 1st. Because September ended. GET IT?! (h/t Cracked)

Of course, much like people get the meaning of “In The Air Tonight” wrong – Actual meaning: Phil Col… I don’t fucking care! – tweeting at him about this song is pouring salt into a wound, since the song is about the death of his father in September 1982 when he was ten, and how every year since puts him further away from the life he shared with a person he clearly cared deeply about.

Anyway, since it earwormed into my head, I figured I’d pass it around like a bong at a bush party. It’s what Seamus would want.

(Both; he’d want both.)

Besides, real assholes know what’s what: dialing 867-5309 in every town you visit.

That’s a classic dick move! Lazy millennials just don’t want to put in the work.

Tonight’s other TV:

Apparently it’s the season premiere of SNL tonight. Chris Rock is the host & Megan Thee Stallion is the musical guest. I don’t know who she is, but some Canadian hippity hopper named Tory Lanez is awaiting charges for shooting her in the foot earlier this year. I’m sure one of her songs will reference that.

——————————————————–

[Fun fact: in checking to see if “Hippity Hopper” was a racist term, I learned it was the name of that stupid boxing kangaroo from the old “Looney Tunes” cartoons.

Researched fact: It’s not racist (at least that I could find) but a predecessor to Sylvester was in one of the “Censored Eleven” cartoons that Warner Brothers made but United Artists withheld from syndication after 1968 over the use of ethnic stereotypes. Specifically, the cat in “Angel Puss” was based on the Stepin’ Fetchit character pioneered by Lincoln Perry, who made a lot of movies in the 1930s but was stereotyped out of work when Hollywood began retiring most of its severely racist caricatures in the 1940s. (His foil in the cartoon is a boy named “Sambo”, so you know how that’s going to go.) The cartoon is available online but I won’t link to it here, to help try & keep [DFO] off certain databases.

Sad fact: Perry’s son Donald was the identified shooter in the 1969 Pennsylvania Turnpike shooting, in which 3 people were killed & 17 others wounded during a shooting spree with an M1 and a carbine before he turned the gun on himself. There is a conspiracy theory that he was set up by the FBI as part of their COINTELPRO program to take the blame for the shooting as an attempt to discredit the black power movement he was a part of after returning stateside following his two tours of Vietnam.]

Man – cartoon history rabbit holes get pretty dark pretty quick. Enjoy your evening!
