Part Two, Deux, Dos, Zwei, Dois of the totally biased Champions League preview

Well that was sure something last week. The Catalans got thumped in Paris like the Kardashian broad and there is no coming back from that. Benfica held at home which will make for an interesting 2nd leg in Deutschland. The Gunners got smoked at the Allianz Arena and I can’t see Wenger there next year, hell I don’t think even he knows. I am not sure if anyone will be a vast improvement but his time has passed and he should move on. Yeah, and another game happened, just need the Italians to win 2-0 at home.

Matchup 1 – Bayer Leverkusen v Athletico Madrid.

Bias #2! I despise Athletico Madrid as much as Real Madrid. Sure they are not cocky and play some lovely futbol but I hold grudges. (Diego Forlan is enemy #1). I cannot express the anger/rage inside me when that game was over. I did back them last year when they played Real though as Real is the devil incarnate.

The Germans sit 9th in the Bundesliga which is not very good overall. The German league is the most fan friendly league in the World as they have the cheapest tickets on average and the supporters own 50+1% of the team. I have been to a couple Bundesliga games and the atmosphere is near the top of any matches I have attended.

I think the Madridistas will go through but I hope the Germans dispose of them efficiently.

German supporters are the best

Matchup 2 – Manchester City v Monaco

English team #2 in the competition, but what can you make of them? I have no idea how Guardiola chooses his squad, one week he will leave Aguero on the bench for the youngsters and the next he has him playing up front all alone. Fernandinho is maddeningly frustrating offensively and I do not trust him on the back end whatsoever.

Monaco has always been MLS Sr. by taking players just past their prime but still good enough to compete in Ligue 1, currently Falcao and Moutinho are the examples. They definitely have a Brazilian flavour to them, three of the back four are Brazilian and they must be solid as they top the standings.

With the way Monaco has played this year they could pull this off. Some in England thought that this matchup would be an easy one for Man City (Buddy Cole approved) but I think that it will be a very tricky battle.

They seem nice.

Matchup 3 – Porto v Juventus.

Two Portuguese teams in the last 16 is huge for a 2nd tier domestic league. In looking at the Porto squad we now know where Iker Casillas retired to with his absolute smokeshow of a wife. I mean seriously, this guy has had a hell of career and has been rewarded so. This is a battle of keepers who at 1 time have been called the best in the world with Iker v Gigi.

I was just recently in Turin and everywhere you look you see Juve colours. The stadium is damn impressive when you drive by it twenty times because traffic is the goddamn worst in the world. I had a full meltdown driving around the city because my GPS in the rental car was so bloody useless that it should have been thrown in the Po River. I digress, the  “Old Lady” is loaded from top to bottom and could run rampant on the Portuguese. Higuain, Khedira, and Mandzukic are world class and with Dani Alves at the back they could definitely put a few past Iker.

Matchup 4 – Sevilla v Leicester City

The fourth and final Spanish team in the last 16 of the competition. Although La Liga has many divas who aren’t afraid to play act any transgression I still believe that it is the best league in the world. Four entries into the competition and they all have progressed and all four look to qualify for next year.

Sevilla is stocked with players that are on loan from “bigger clubs” and enough internationals to keep them competitive with the other big clubs. Samir Nasri is here on loan, I have always thought that he never reached his potential in England, but if he has ended up here it seems I believed him to be better than he truly is.

Nasri also done alright for himself

Leicester City/Foxy Footy. I don’t even know what to say. They have been fantastic in their first European adventure yet in the Premiership they are a big bag of flaming garbage. My question to the futbol fans in DFO is what the hell happened? They lost 1 player and they are a completely substandard club. Jamie Vardy should really have left for the money when his stocks were high as they very well could be relegated if they keep playing like garbage in the Prem.

In this mixed up, topsy turvy world Leicester will advance while hitting the bottom of the table back home.

One correction, a Madridista is a Real Madrid supporter, whereas Madrileño is a native or inhabitant of Madrid, nickname would “gato” (cat).
Supporters of Atletico are called Atleticos (surprise) or ‎Rojiblancos (Redwhites, self-explanatory), Colchoneros (mattrasses – because the colors were similar to matrasses used in postwar times), and Indios (Native-Americans, two theories – either because they had a bit more South Americans in their team or because the stadium was next to a river similar how indians are pictured to have their huts)
Supporters of Real Madrid are called Madridistas (because the original name was Madrid C.F. and got the Real part, or Royal, when it was bestowed to the club by King Alfonso XIII in 1920), Blancos (whites, because of the color of the shirt), Merengues (eggwhite, again the shirt), Vikingos (because they bought a couple of Scandinavian players at one point), and Galacticos (because they try, and usually succeed, to have the biggest stars in their team)
To finish off with the rest of the Spanish teams in the CL:
Barcelona FC supporters are called Barcelonistas (Barcelones is a native or inhabitant of Barcelona), azulgranas (bluereds, where grana comes from dark red, wine color), blaugranas (catalan language version of azulgrana) and cules (asses, because the last row of their stadium was open, so the passerbys would just see asses and associate them with people that would watch FC Barcelona games)
And Sevilla fans are called Sevillistas (Sevillano is a person from Sevilla), Blanquirojos(Whitereds, their primary color is white), Nervionenses (Nervion is the river that runs through Sevilla and is the name of neighborhood where their stadium is located)

Sorry for the long post that noone asked for, but as we say here – for every “Why?” there’s “Fuck it, why not?”

Some Spanish are still fond of injun-ing South Americans (Sudakas). Which is hi LA rious: fuck ’em with a mitre.
Simeone is a proud Argentinian (redundant, right?), so he’s proudly Cholo or indio.

Don T

That was cracking goal and you think Forlán’s detestable. What’s next: fucking Gandhi, attention whore?

Don T

I hear ya. Así es el fútbol.

Keep showing the fine line between ELITE and shite, Foxy Footy!

Leverkusen have Chicharito , so I’ll be cheering for them.

I don’t think the Spanish league is as strong as in previous years. It’s basically Real and the also-rans. I’m thinking Sevilla and Real are the only ones that go through.
