I keep a spreadsheet with potential topics for Request Line, and I’ve had “false accusations” on there for quite a long time. I’d always been hesitant to run with it, though, because I thought the topic might be a little too narrow. But given the quality and quantity of the songs on today’s edition of DFO Radio, I think it’s fair to say that I’ve been proven wrong. In fact, one might say I was falsely accusing everyone here of being unable to get the job done. This week the algorithm that shuffles the songs as it builds the playlist made a recommendation that ArmedandHammered take home the pick of the week for his selection of “Setting Me Up” by Dire Straits, and I happen to agree.
I couldn’t sleep well last night. Part of that was because about an hour after I went to bed my cat turned up outside, howling her face off, demanding that I pay tribute to the fact that she’d caught a mouse. But the other part was knowing that the Singapore summit was happening and how the American press was going to inevitably react to it. Watching my fellow Americans completely recalibrate their opinion of Kim Jong Un has been tremendously upsetting for me. It’s like watching an episode of the Vampire Diaries, where you’re presented with a character that in the past has murdered dozens of people in cold blood, but they’re nice now, so all of their past transgressions become absolutely meaningless. Except of course this is the real world, and when you order the assassination of your own brother, and have your uncle and his entire family rounded up and executed, it shouldn’t be possible to wipe that away with some vague promises to be better in the future. Except we live in the worst possible timeline, so apparently it is.
Anyhow, sorry to open up the week on such a down note. Here’s some tunes to bring you back up.
As always, here’s the Spotify link.
