Sharkbait’s Cocktail of the Week: Outsourcing.

I’m just gonna come out and say it. I got lazy (also stupid busy) this week and I ended up Outsourcing the Cocktail of the Week. It didn’t help that the weather shot up to 88 degrees (31 for our Canadian friends). So any and all ambition for turning the oven on for dinner went out the newly opened window today. Because of that, the Sharkbait clan decided to go to the little restaurant/bar  around the corner that’s become a favorite since we moved here a couple years ago. This is also the same place where Mrs. Sharkbait and I took a cocktail making class recently. They specialize in comfort food and really good drinks. Seriously, look at their list:

Sadly, the espresso martini trend is still going strong.

Since it was unseasonably hot, I ordered the Just Jack. Lemonade, vodka and prosecco? Sign me up!

Just Jack

Vodka

Lemon Juice

Simple Syrup

Blackberry Liqueur

Topped With Prosecco

I didn’t really get a sense of aroma off of this one, since I just wanted to dive in, and let me tell you, this was the perfect drink to kick off dinner on an 85+degree day. It starts out with the bubbles since the prosecco is added as a topper, and when it’s served, the effervescence is still quite strong, and lightens this drink up immensely. Once you get past the prosecco, the best way I can describe this is as if you were drinking a less sweet melted blackberry popsicle. I don’t know what blackberry liqueur they use, but I’m going to find out and get my hands on a bottle. Actually, knowing what I learned from the cocktail class, I wouldn’t be surprised if they make it in house. Either way, I must own a bottle.

The lemonade and vodka take a backseat to the other flavors going on. The lemonade to keep it from being too sweet to drink, and the vodka adds oomph that makes this a true cocktail. This drink is solidly in the “dangerously delicious” category. I really wish I knew the proportions on this because I really want to make this over and over this summer. Maybe a trip back to the bar to ask the bartender really, really nicely is in the cards to see if I can get the exact recipe.

Don’t know if this is the one they were using for this drink, but I’ve had this, and it’s pretty goddamn tasty:

(a fine product of the PNW, I might add. Blackberries grow like wildfire out here.)

Sounds like a great way to enjoy the flavor of blackberries without all the obnoxious tiny seeds getting stuck between teeth!

Do let us know if you have luck with the blackberry liqueur – I’ve been trying to find a way to work blackberries into an old fashioned and just plain berries doesn’t get the job done.

You misspelled “venereal disease”.

She gave a recent interview where she described herself as ‘asexual’ back in the day. Which seems…inconsistent with her public image.

I was expecting a lot more egg white in a cocktail called ‘Just Jack’

I don’t think I would order a Just Jack if the bartender was Kellen Winslow Jr.

Since that drink menu put a song in my head, I will pass the song along.
