My most beloved Thursday Night Special was Molson Canadian on tap and 5 cent wings. God, such a long time ago! Speaking of, there’s going to be a wing shortage here in The Canada because we import megatons upon megatons of wings from Brazil and there’s a moratorium that will last until about March, my protein guy is telling me. Oof!
Is it just me or is the most intriguing/unexpected/curious football season in quite some time? It’s a heady mixture of upsets, blowouts, teams getting their comeuppance, injuries, weird games, the football Gods reigning fire upon squadoos-it’s all there and I expect more because I’m greedy and selfish.
Flotsam and Jetsam:
-Marshawn Kneeland apparently took his life at the age of 24. Perhaps it’ll come out later but I don’t much care about the reason. As WCS says, “Hug those closest to you”-you just never know what your fellow human is thinking and when you might make a difference.
-WHOA, there: The Cards Bidwell asks his coaching staff, “Which one of you think Kyler is our starting QB? Take a step forward. Not so fast, Gannon!” Murray all of a sudden has a Brissett-related lingering injury and has been thrown on the IR heap.
-Giving Back is Important: There’s no doubt that given his recent play Rico Dowdle is hitting all kinds of incentive bonuses right out of the park. So it’s nice to know that he feels the need to give almost $15k to The Players Assistance Trust which helps out retired players. Awww, that’s sweet.
To The Game!
Raiders/Broncos:
-Denver is favored by a healthy 9 points and if Nix is on that margin should be in the rear view mirror by halftime.
-Say hello to Tre Tucker of the Raiders, with Meyers being traded he’s their new #1 wideout in this offense. “Surely you jest, scotchy-who’s he?” Well, that’s the thing-a quick scan of their moribund wr room will identify 33 yr old Tyler Lockett or Jack Bech (5 grabs in his last 5 games) so there you are. No wonder Geno isn’t worth the donkey he rode in on.
-The big question for the Broncos is who will be covering the man-god that is Brock Bowers, the only consistent offensive weapon that the Raiders have. The sharp guys tell me it will be a combo of inside backer and safety but I can’t spell their names.
-Coach Loose Change is currently 16th on the all-time win list (173) which isn’t bad given that he spent 10 seasons at USC.
-Them Broncs lead the league with 40 sacks distributed among 14 players.
-There were concerns that cornerback Riley Moss would be hung out to dry playing opposite Surtain (that’s code for He’s White!) but he’s acquitted himself well and has 10 pass breakups already.
Hey, there’s a Mandatory Sunday morning. See you there.
