Boris’s Week One Review
So many analysts I have followed and listened to over the years neglect to do one thing I think is important for credibility: dissect their own advice after the games have been played. In the space below, I will show you my lineups, tell you how I did; what went right and what went wrong. By the way, I last minute played a Fanduel lineup too…not typically something I do.
|
DK Hurts Mostert Cook Pittman Davis Higgins Kelce Callaway Broncos |
SD Hurts Mostert Robinson Davis Ridley Pittman Kelce Cook |
FD Hurts Mostert Robinson Davis Callaway DHop Kelce Kamara Broncos |
Results? I cashed on DK with 136.56 points and on FD with 134.26, but lost on SD. The cash line on DK was 123.86 which is below average, I would expect this line to increase in coming weeks. The cash line on FD was 98.7, which is real low. The below will be a mainly DK analysis since that is where the majority of my money goes.
The Good:
QB
Kyler Murray was the guy I wanted, and had I gone there, I might have been better off. I watched this game and I gotta say, Kyler is a physical freak, but I’m not sure he has the same results without Hopkins. DHop is ELITE. He looked off a receiver before he caught the ball and caught it whilst his eyes were elsewhere. I’ll get into him later, but ultimately, my thought process with Kyler was on and his price will likely only increase.
Hurts is where I landed on in all three spots and he did what we needed and then some. I did not expect the game to go this way. Other than the first drive, Atlanta had nothing…they friggin suck and their suckiness cost me money on SuperDraft. Hurts ran for over 60 yards, tossed a few TDs and provided the upside I said we might need. 28.76 points is evidence of said upside. Do keep in mind that this was Hurts vs Falcons though, 28 points will be harder to come by in other weeks.
Didn’t see 5 TDs coming out of Winston vs Green Bay, but less than 150 yards passing is mildly concerning.
If you played Mac Jones and then went something like CMC, Kelce, Cook, Davis, Broncos…you likely made money. I just didn’t have the stones to do it. I applaud you if you did.
RB
CMC smashed. Picking him wasn’t hard, paying for him was. It will only get harder to pay for him as the season goes on. I regret not using him on SD despite no multiplier.
Cook was my pay up at the RB position lock this week (as if you couldn’t tell from my graphic). While he was serviceable, 21.4 DK points actually comes under where I needed him to be. Luckily Hurts, Kelce and Davis carried the day for me here. The Vikings issue running the ball vs the Bengals has me shook…I…I’m not sure what to say here other than to say I’m thankful that Cook is viable in all situations and on all downs. I will dig into this more, but I am weary about Cook vs the Cardinals this week, and Montgomery is off my radar next week vs the Bengals….for now.
I was able to fit Kamara in on FD due to pricing, not sure he was ever possible on DK.
If you went Damien Harris, you are a smarter man than I. He rewarded you with 23 carries for 100 yards and 2 catches for 17 yards which = 16.7 and the exact amount you would need for a cash game.
I didn’t take my own bait on Williams as the Denver backfield looks like a split backfield for now.
WR
Corey Davis in one of my week one heroes. Wilson, who looked like shit, has chemistry with Davis. Davis is a really good receiver, and $4900 for him is something we likely don’t see again.
I will say, a second time, Deandre Hopkins looked off a receiver while the ball was in the air, caught it without watching it into his hands, and reversed directions to scamper for a TD. The man is a freak. He was my preferred pay up option at WR, and thanks to FD’s soft pricing, ended up in my cash game there.
I did say Tyfreek is always capable of a 100 yard game. I didn’t play him anywhere though. He was in the millionaire winning lineup.
Keenan Allen was fine, he’ll do even more damage against imaginary defenses. I was tempted by the price, but never ended there. I pray his price doesn’t increase.
I’m glad Higgins left the game after getting the necessary points I needed from him. Meanwhile, Chase is the one on the highlight reel. While Chase is legit, I hope Higgins’s price stays low.
If you played Smith or Reagor, I doubt you were unhappy. They just went along with Hurts and the shit Falcons secondary for me.
TE
Kelce was 10% owned in cash games this week on DK (30% on FD). My wallet thanks you @everyone. I mentioned upside in my article. There is no TE with more upside than Kelce. Even at $8300 on DK, $8500 on FD, and 1x SD, there simply isn’t anyone with as safe of a floor and more of a high ceiling than Kelce. #KonamiCode
DST
In and of itself, DST is a bit of a crapshoot. The best defenses aren’t always the highest scoring fantasy “players.” That being said, the Broncos didn’t fuck it up too bad, but I did say Saquon wouldn’t do much.
The Bad:
QB
Didn’t make a bad call! Go me! (Almost never happens.)
RB
Raheem Mostert. I even doubled down in the comments about how I was locking this injury-proned MOFO in everywhere. Ultimately he cost me many gpps this weekend, but because of other plays I survived his 2 point outing in cash. I maintain that the SF offense is a very good running offense, and because I was paying attention to information prior to lock, I knew Elijah Mitchell would be backing up Mostert (I have the text message to prove it) and therefore picked him up in all my seasonal leagues before waivers started at 1 Eastern. He is now the potential starting RB for SF. Or is it JaMycal Hasty??? Or will Sermon be back next week? Damn you SF!
James Robinson. What the actual eff here? Again, I managed to keep him out of my DK lineup. Many have maintained that he actually isn’t that good, but regardless, I maintain that the combination of Bevell and Meyer is not that good. My main gpp RBs were Mostert and Robinson. RIP. I’m glad I trusted my instincts about Urban Meyer…you need to earn my trust Mr. Meyer.
I left Ekeler out in an offense that is designed to utilize him. I was worried about the WFT and his injury, I don’t plan on making that mistake again.
WR
The eff Calvin Ridley and Atlanta??? Damn I hate Atlanta. You deserved to lose a SuperBowl when you were up 28 – 3 in the 3rd quarter.
Jefferson (nor Thielen) was never really in play for me as I was all in on Cook. That being said, Thielen was in a gpp lineup or two that didn’t make money cuz Robinson/Mostert.
So…Wentz sucks right? Right? I feel I’ve been making excuses for this suckbag for too long. 2 TDs to Pascal? Pascal? Really???? 2???????? Pittman is so much better. This situation infuriates me.
Callaway was next to non-existent, and I internally worried he might be. At $3400 and over 50% ownership in cash games though, that didn’t hurt but definitely could in the future.
TE
The Philly situation looks like both are in play, not me though, I’m not into Devil’s Threeways.
I really dodged the Robert Tonyan bullet. He was targeted 4 times for 2 catches and 8 yards. He was the only option I was considering over Kelce in cash. I am truly sorry if anyone went that route.
Firkser wasn’t great. However, if you paid down that far, it might not have hurt you too bad? Maybe?
The Straight Misses
QB
I didn’t have Mahomes written up, but he’s really always in play.
Joe Burrow was in the millionaire winning lineup. I told a buddy I was okay with playing him as Minnesota’s secondary is not good. However, I didn’t tell you guys, I am sorry.
I did not think Jared Goff would be as successful as he was in week one. I didn’t think the Lions overall would be any good. That was bad analysis on my part.
RB
If anything, I thought the Bengals would have success with the pass game, but Mixon got his too. I will keep this team’s output in mind, but the Vikings defensive woes will clearly continue this season.
Jamaal Williams AND Deandre Swift had days??? I clearly overrated the 49ers defense. I even scoffed at a friend when he reached out to tell me Williams was starting. I simply don’t trust Anthony Lynn but will look into this situation in greater detail this week.
WR
I have always liked Deebo Samuel, I was just worried about the niners passing attack coming into this season. In fact I still am. Brandon Aiyuk was supposed to be WR1 in this offense, yet he was targeted a grand total of zero times yesterday. I’ll try to dissect the niners offense this week, but it could just be the Lions defense blows.
TE
What’s a Juwan Johnson?
I have Hockenson in some seasonal spots but didn’t recommend him, I should have.
DST
The Cardinals looked good on D. The addition of JJ Watt looks quite good for Chandler Jones.
Titans secondary looks bad. I think it’s real bad news for Derrick Henry because I think the Titans will be playing from behind in most games, and Henry comes off the field in passing downs and in hurry up mode. I’m already salivating at playing either Lockett or Metcalf next week.
