DFO Radio: He Was Who We Thought He Was

Last week was one of the least structured Request Lines we’ve done, with the theme simply based around memorializing Denny Green.  Hopefully the Vikings will pay him some respect by naming something in the stadium after him (maybe name the playing surface after him, or open a breakfast-focused restaurant in his honor).

It was kind of an apocalyptic weekend in Los Angeles, as temperatures soared and the sky filled up with ash from a big fire up in Santa Clarita.  Certainly made the sun look interesting.

As a Raiders fan, my weekend came to a screeching halt last night when news broke that Aldon Smith had posted a video of himself blazing up on Periscope, which potentially will lead to an extension of his substance abuse suspension and – possibly – end his NFL career altogether.  Addiction is a very real problem, so he certainly has my sympathy as far as that’s concerned (and it would be very easy to go on a diatribe about how ridiculous it is to punish him for “abusing” a quasi-legal substance in his own home) but what I can’t abide is the obsessive need to DOCUMENT shit like that.  Hopefully whatever happens (presumably him getting dropped from the Raiders) won’t get too messy and they’ll be able to move on with training camp without too many distractions.

Here’s the Spotify link, and as always, enjoy the tunes!

Cannabis is habit forming.

It is not in any way addictive.

Neither your brain nor your body come to depend on any of the psychoactive components of the cannabis plant to function. You can no more be addicted to cannabis than you can be addicted to cheeseburgers. Sure you might really, REALLY like them, and giving them up might be a real pain in the ass, but you are in no way dependent on the ingredients of a cheeseburger for your brain and body to function normally from one day to the next so that withdrawal of those ingredients causes physical or psychological harm.

I think the problem is that kids these days never dealt with the Reagan-Bush-Clinton years when getting caught with a little bud could mean big trouble. They just don’t see it as anything that carries serious consequences on the field or off and never have. They grew up in an environment far too permissive to engender a respect for authority when it comes to cannabis use. They were listening to Snoop Dogg in the womb. Even in college you’re only tested in season so it’s party time like it is for everyone else once you clean out your locker.

In a couple more years as many people are going to care about bullshit like this as care about the Texans.

Nicely done.

Low Commander of the Super Soldiers

Since they drafted Tunsil, I’m sure he could always find a spot with the Phish.

Remember being ELITE?

Those were good times…

The Maestro

So Josh Gordon is officially reinstated (though suspended for the Browns’ first 4 games of the season as well).

$20 says he’s currently lighting up a victory blunt in light of this news.

Was he suspended for his peeing fetish? I can’t remember.
