DFO Radio: Things You Maybe Heard Right

Last week BrettFavresColonoscopy stepped in and took over the airwaves with a topic of “misunderstood lyrics”.  I’m happy that you folks delivered him a much warmer welcome than a certain land baron received as our on-air host.  I’m giving the top pick this week to ArmedandHammered, who picked up spectacular value outside of the initial frame with the grandaddy of them all, Iron Butterfly’s “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida”.

Here’s the Spotify link.

About the banner image: for those who don’t recognize it, it’s from the original Z 408 cipher produced by the Zodiac Killer.  It was sent out in three parts to be published by Bay Area papers, and it took about a week for a married couple to solve.  The killer’s next cipher, sent two weeks after his first had been cracked, has never been definitively solved.  Since the killer was never identified (and is most likely dead by now) we’ll never know what it really said.  One of the more interesting theories is that it doesn’t say anything at all – that the killer was so frustrated and embarrassed at his cipher having been cracked so quickly that he sent out something meaningless as a form of payback.  If you’re interested in reading more about that theory, here’s a blog post that breaks it down. Discerning puzzlers will even be able to identify yours truly’s own contribution to the discussion.

I’ll be back on Friday with a new topic, and in the meantime I wish everyone the greatest of joy in watching the NFL Draft on Thursday.
