INT. RECORDING STUDIO – DAY/NIGHT/DAY/NIGHT/DAY/NIGHT/DAY…
DJ 3000 and various other robot entities remain trapped in a time loop inside the KDFO recording studio. A miniaturized DJ 3000 continues to fiddle with a complicated contraption of wires and lenses, while a miniaturized PETUNIA and MAXIMILIAN and regular-sized PED-209 and JIM NANCE 081-RD-92C look on. On the far side of the room, JOHNNY 2.5 and RUSSELL WILSON are sitting against the wall, taking turns tossing marbles at an empty coffee mug ten feet away like it’s a basketball hoop.
JOHNNY 2.5: …AND SO THE RUNNING JOKE IS THAT JOE MAZZULLA SPENDS ALL HIS TIME REWATCHING “THE TOWN” INSTEAD OF REVIEWING GAME FILM.
RUSSELL WILSON: And it wasn’t obvious that he was joking when he said that he watches it four times a week?
JOHNNY 2.5: HONESTLY, WITH HIS FLAT AFFECT, NOBODY IS REALLY SURE. CHECK THIS OUT:
RUSSELL WILSON: Wow, he actually said that?
JOHNNY 2.5: EVERY WORD.
RUSSELL WILSON: That’s really creepy.
JOHNNY 2.5: I ACTUALLY HAVEN’T SEEN “THE TOWN” MYSELF, IS IT ANY GOOD?
RUSSELL WILSON: It’s fine. It’s basically a love letter to Boston, the same way that Michael Mann films are love letters to Los Angeles.
JOHNNY 2.5: OH, HEY, THAT GIVES ME AN IDEA. [raises voice] HEY DJ 3000 DO WE HAVE A TOPIC FOR REQUEST LINE YET?
DJ 3000: WE DO NOT. HAVE YOU GOT SOMETHING?
JOHNNY 2.5: HOW ABOUT CITIES AND TOWNS?
DJ 3000: WE’VE ALREADY DONE CITIES, WE DID IT DRAFT STYLE BACK IN MARCH OF 2018.
PETUNIA: But those were songs about actual cities. What if we did songs that explicitly mention the word “City” or “Town” in their titles?
DJ 3000: THAT COULD WORK. DO THEY HAVE TO BE FICTIONAL CITIES AND TOWNS?
PETUNIA: Nope! Real ones are fine too, as long as they’ve got one of those words in the title. Why don’t I get us started with an example?
Today’s theme is: Cities and Towns. We’re looking for songs that include the word “city” or “town” in the title (preferably paired with a descriptor, like “Detroit Rock City” or “Funkytown”). Post links as “https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tR3n(hR0cK and they should embed in the comments after you refresh. Last week’s puzzle solution was “Dirty Diana” by Michael Jackson, and nobody got it. Have at it!
