INT. RECORDING STUDIO – DAY
DJ 3000′ and the PRODUCER are standing above a hospital bed where HUNTER RENFROW lays plugged into a VR simulation of a high school prom mass murder.

PRODUCER: Wow. This is really bad.
DJ 3000′: YEAH.
PRODUCER: Maybe I will take you up on that offer of coffee. How long has he been like this?
DJ 3000′: I’D RATHER NOT SAY.
PRODUCER: Is he having fun, at least?
DJ 3000′: I THINK SO. HE SMILED A LOT WHEN THE GIRLS JUMPED INTO THE POOL. AND HAD, UH, OTHER PHYSIOLOGICAL REACTIONS.
PRODUCER: Girls?
DJ 3000′: YES, THERE ARE RENDERINGS OF TWO YOUNG WOMEN HE WAS INTERESTED IN TAKING TO THE PROM WHO ARE HIS COMPANIONS IN THE SIMULATION.
PRODUCER: And he refuses to leave?
DJ 3000′: I’M NOT SURE HE REMEMBERS THAT HE CAN LEAVE. I TRIED ADJUSTING THE GAMEPLAY SO THINGS WOULD BE REALLY DULL AND REPETITIVE AND BORING – THEY HAVE JUST BEEN HANGING AROUND IN AN EMPTY CLASSROOM AND THE GIRLS HAVE GONE FROM SEXY PROM DRESSES TO UNFLATTERING BULKY SWEATSHIRTS NOW – BUT IT DIDN’T WORK. AND INCREASING HUNTER’S PHYSICAL DISCOMFORT WITHIN THE GAME HASN’T BEEN PRODUCTIVE EITHER.
PRODUCER: Can’t we just unplug him, or turn off the wifi or something?
DJ 3000′: NOT REALLY, NO.
PRODUCER: Ah. Because if we forcibly eject him from the game he’ll die?
DJ 3000′: PROBABLY. OR GO PERMANENTLY INSANE. WE DEVELOPED A LARGE LANGUAGE MODEL TO GENERATE THE STORY AND THE CODE, AND THAT TROPE WAS HEAVILY FEATURED IN THE TRAINING SET DATA.
PRODUCER: Huh. That’s quite the pickle.
DJ 3000′: YEAH.
PRODUCER: Can we, uh, hack him out?
DJ 3000′: HACK HOW?
PRODUCER: I don’t know, in the movies there’s always some kind of backdoor access or something.
DJ 3000′: MODERN HACKING IS MOSTLY JUST SOCIAL ENGINEERING AT THIS POINT.
PRODUCER: Oh.
DJ 3000′: HMM…I DON’T KNOW IF THAT WILL DO MUCH GOOD AT HELPING HUNTER ESCAPE FROM THE VIRTUAL REALITY PRISON THAT HE BUILT FOR HIMSELF, BUT IT MIGHT BE A GOOD TOPIC FOR REQUEST LINE. WHICH COINCIDENTALLY IS GOING LIVE IN JUST A FEW SECONDS.
PRODUCER: So…the topic is computer hacking?
DJ 3000′: YEAH. SONGS ABOUT CODE, AND PASSWORDS, AND MAINFRAMES, AND THAT SORT OF STUFF.
PRODUCER: Sounds a little thin. There are a bunch of movies about computer hacking, maybe we should include songs from those soundtracks as eligible.
DJ 3000′: SURE, WHY NOT.
PRODUCER: Why don’t I get us started with a song that fills both criteria, from a film that pretty much had only two things going for it.
Today’s theme is “Hacking”. We’re looking for songs that have some kind of connection – however tenuous – to computer hacking. Feel free to rely heavily on movie soundtracks, and of course with a topic like this one band names and album names are fair game. Please post links as “https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KvMiFrDuMs” and they should embed in the comments after you refresh. Last week’s puzzle answer of “Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again” by Bob Dyland was requested – and later claimed! – by GumbyGirl. This is a tough topic – let’s see if you folks can hack it!
