Today we decided to take advantage of the relaxed restrictions to invite some friends over for dinner & drinks. The great thing about the three day weekend is that you can Sunday drink with no ramifications. (I realize most of us drink on Sundays, but there usually are consequences on Monday, so the extension really is a benefit.) And drinking with people you like makes for a generally overall positive experience.
The downside is when one person gets the inevitable cough, either from laughter or they got a dog hair in the throat. There’s already the initial uncomfortability of just having the hack-fit in front of friends, but now there’s the back-of-your-mind thought of, ‘what if they think I have COVID?’ followed swiftly by ‘OH GOD, DO I HAVE THE COVID?!’.
Luckily, having a backyard means everyone could keep a comfortable distance, so all that was needed was asking if they needed a non-alcoholic drink to solve that problem. Strangers would have been a completely different situation – but why would I have had strangers over to my house in the first place? I hate most everyone I don’t know.

Crossed off another classic film I’d never seen before last night: Three Days of the Condor.
Good film, but it has the weirdest edited love scene ever. It keeps cutting back and forth between stills of the Faye Dunaway character’s photographs (which we have been told repeatedly show how LONELY she is) and shots of her and Redford with expressions that look more like constipation than passion or ecstasy. It’s also kind of a creepy scene considering that Redford’s character has kidnapped her at gunpoint, taken her back to her apartment, and only recently untied her.
It may be rapey but Redford IS devilishly handsome.

Watching “Mission: Impossible” on CBS because CBS is desperate with no sports:
– Seeing 1996’s version of the Internet is hilarious. Its like showing a kid today a NES or a computer with Windows 3.1 and DOS.
– Other than making the good guy the bad guy, the movie still holds up. But Ethan not only discovering that Job was not the word Job [jäb] but the name Job [jōb] but knowing which Usenet Group to post in and how to respond to find the bad guy is with a doubt, one of the most contrived coincidences I ever seen in a film.
