It’s Saturday night, so you know what that means?!
Cartoons!

Okay look – there’s not a lot on these days. So I figured, why not go deep down some rabbit hole & find a historical artifact that, when viewed with today’s eyes, seems wildly out of place, and the act of just watching it makes the woke folk on Twitter twitch. It’s got everything:
- A stereotyped 1950s Black woman, with a voiced by Lillian Randolph.
- There are versions with the voice dubbed over, and one where she’s replaced by a white girl out with her boyfriend.
- If you think I’m linking to the picture, you’re crazy.
- A totem pole reference.
- “Black” music.
It’s fleeting racism, but racism nonetheless. I remember seeing this one on TV into the early 1980s, which shows that walls come down very slowly. It’s not happening fast enough, as Volkswagen got pilloried this week for a 10-second ad which contained:
- a dark-skinned man being manoeuvred around by a pair of white women’s hands before being flicked away from a yellow VW Golf;
- the man is flicked into a café called “Petit Colon”, which translates both from French to English and from French to German as “Little Settler” or “Little Colonist”;

- some allege that, in today’s climate, the flicking hand could be interpreted as making a “white power” gesture.

- when the German slogan “Der Neue Golf” (“The New Golf”) fades in, the letters which fade in first spell out a word in German, “neger”, which can be used as the German equivalent of the n-word.

Well, judge for yourself.
And the cake they ate tasted something like this:
“We at Volkswagen are aware of the historical origins and the guilt of our company during the Nazi regime,” the statement reads. “That is precisely why we resolutely oppose all forms of hatred, slander/propaganda, and discrimination.”
If Seamus were still with us, he would have had the most delightful opinion. Then we’d twist the knife about the crazy Australian racist he once dated, and then we’d spend the next four hours making fun of his love life. But the fucker just had to go trade continued existence for the chance to bang Phyllis George, and all we are left with are the memories & the smiles he brought us (through his misery).
[FYI – “Mammy Two-Shoes” first made an appearance in “Puss Gets the Boot” (1940). Outcry led to the “Mammy” character being discontinued, after 19 episodes, by Hanna-Barbera in 1952, with “Push-Button Kitty”.]
Tonight’s … entertainment?:
- Korea Baseball Organization:
- Hanwha Eagles at NC Dinos – 12:55 AM | ESPN / TSN
- Caddyshack – 8:00 PM | IFC
- Hopefully, it’s not too edited. We all know how you Americans can’t handle boobies on TV.
- Casablanca – 8:00 PM | TCM
- It’s fucking Bogart & Bergman – what more do you need?
Tonight appears to be an “entertain yourselves” kind of evening. Good luck.
