The recording studio at KDFO looks much as we’d remember it from the before-time. There is no evidence of the PRODUCER’s long descent into quarantine madness, or of DJ 3000’s current work coordinating logistics for the recently approved “lend-lease” program to supply weapons to the Ukrainian armed forces. The PRODUCER is seated in front of the sound console, watching DJ 3000 cross-update several database structures.
PRODUCER: Well this certainly seems to be a step down for you.
DJ 3000: …SYNCHING…THIRTY-FIVE PERCENT COMPLETE…YOU KNOW HOW THEY DESCRIBE WAR AS “INTERMINABLE PERIODS OF BOREDOM PUNCTUATED BY MOMENTS OF SHEER TERROR”?
PRODUCER: I’ve heard that, yes.
DJ 3000: THIS IS ONE OF THOSE INTERMINABLE PERIODS – SYNCHING…FORTY PERCENT COMPLETE – OF BOREDOM.
PRODUCER: You know, you don’t need to let me know your progress at five percent intervals.
DJ 3000: SORRY ABOUT THAT. IT’S MORE TROUBLE TO DISABLE THE FEATURE – SYNCHING…FORTY-FIVE PERCENT COMPLETE – THAN IT’S WORTH.
PRODUCER: Well could you mute your speakers, at least?
DJ 3000: WILL DO.
A moment of silence passes. The PRODUCER fiddles with an equalizer knob on the sound board.
PRODUCER: Hey, so what should we do for a Request Line topic today?
DJ 3000: [is muted]
PRODUCER: Oh, right. Well, I had an idea, so let’s run with it. Songs that rely heavily on the synthesizer.
DJ 3000: [is still muted, but flashes green in agreement]
PRODUCER: I’ll..oh, wow, it’s been a while since I did one of these manually. I’ll get us started with one of the all-time classics – the “1984” intro plus Van Halen’s “Jump”.
Today’s theme is: Synthesizers. We’re looking for songs where the synthesizer is heavily featured – synth solos are a bonus. Post links as “https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4Lt3Rm3Y3r and they should embed in the comments after you refresh.
