Well, many of you said we didn’t know what we were doing. Many doubted that we could make money. To that I say this: ONLY I PROVED YOU RIGHT!!
Everyone else is showing a profit as we head into the playoffs! Excellent work, my friends! There is a reason I don’t go to Vegas any more…
Now, since the season is over and the SuperContest that was the basis for our lines is complete, I’m not sure where we go from here. Do we continue betting onto the playoffs? I say
The odds for this weekend’s playoff games as of Tuesday, January 5, 2016 are as follows:
Kansas City -3 at Houston
Pittsburgh -3 at Cincinnati
Seattle -5 at Minnesota
Green Bay -1 at Washington
If you like home underdogs, this is your week. What say you, gentlemen?
WhyEaglesWhy
Why, I DO like home underdogs, thanks for asking! In fact, I’m going to bet all four of these games (although I’m going to take the home underdog in only two).
Chefs -3 over TEXANS – Call me a homer for Big Red (which I am, I love the guy), but I feel like KC has proved its mettle against better teams. The Texans are a 6-10 team masquerading as a playoff team because of their schedule. Also, let’s not forget that Alex Smith turns into Dan Fouts come playoff time. Yes, the Chiefs lost to the Colts in the first round two years ago, but Jamaal Charles got hurt in the first quarter and they scored 44 points anyway. Smith has played in 3 playoff games, throwing for 9 TDs, 0 INTs, and 7.7 YPA (which would have ranked 6th in the NFL this season). He’s a secret playoff killer. Stakes: $44 to win $40.
BENGALS +3 over Steelers – I bought the “Steelers are the team nobody wants to play!” narrative a lot more before they took a Najeh on the field against the Ravens and had a very underwhelming performance against the Browns. Despite losing, the Bengals played their asses off against the Broncos, and I’m making this bet assuming A.J. McCarron is playing. He’s not terrible. Stakes: $22 to win $20.
SLURS +1 over Packers – The Slurs are a legit 9-7 team. That’s been enough to take care of the Packers lately, unless Aaron Rodgers goes all “Baseball Bugs” and blocks and catches for himself. The Slurs are also really good at home. Stakes: $22 to win $20.
Seahawks -5 over VIKINGS – I’m not happy about it. I’d love our own yeah right to have a joyous victory, and I kinda like Teddy Bridgewater. But man, this doesn’t look good for the Vikes. The Seahawks were 5-3 on the road this year, meaning that in sharp contrast to recent years, they played equally well at home and on the road. Let’s also not forget that they beat the Vikings by 31 at their place. Stakes: $33 to win $30.
DTZM
So I’m in a league that goes through the playoffs, and I am rooting specifically for my remaining players. THEREFORE I am going with:
Pittsburgh -3 at Cincinnati – I have BEN and Antonio Brown playing, so here’s where my money goes. $44 to win $40
Seattle -5 at Minnesota – Very similar. I’m playing Russ Wilson and Tyler Lockett (my favorite player, btw) so LET’S GO SEAHAWKS. $44 to win $40
Kansas City -3 at Houston – This one is tough. I have Chark West and Nuk Hopkins, so it’s a push. Since I have extra WR’s left, I’ll go with the Chiefs here. $11 to win $10
Green Bay -1 at Washington – DON’T CARE. I think Washington puts Green Bay’s miserable (by their perspective) season to the torch, here. But I couldn’t care less. $11 to win $10.
King Hippo
The one thing that strikes me as we enter wild card, bitches! weekend is that none of the participants is demonstrably shitty this year. Though we do get the oddity of 4 home dogs, though the 2 I like aren’t quite as doggy-dog as I’d like them to be, given that they are widely considered the two least playoff-worthy squadrons. Fuck it, taking ’em anyway, but not with lofty wagers.
TEXANS +3 over Chiefs. I read Bill Barnwell’s piece on every playoff team’s kryptonite, and though the Chefs give LOTS of other sides heartburn…guess who their ONE poor matchup might be? The imaginary team (which we should support out of solidarity, at least here) shuts down the underneath stuff, but is vulnerable deep/ Ruh roh, Tiny Hands. Bet $33 to win $30.
REDACTEDS +1 over Packers. When in doubt, bet against the team that has no OL, and a moron for a head coach. The Redacteds feel really good about themselves right now, and the emotion of a home playoff game can get them through one round against a team that just wants this season over so Fatass McCarthy can be fired. Then the Panthers or Cardinals kick their teeth in the following week. Bet $22 to win $20.
