I went to the opening show of U2’s tour the other night. I sat way, WAY up top.
It was a good, but not great, show. They started strong, with all pre-“Joshua Tree” songs, including the one above. They sounded great. Then they played the whole album to the “conclusion”. For the encore, aside from playing “Beautiful Day” and “One”, because he had our attention, Bono started Bono-ing, with long soliloquies in-between obscure b-sides and discarded third-side songs from “Joshua Tree”. After his third lecture, as people were waiting for one last “big” song, the light’s came up and the show was over. So, this

Good thing it was a gift. Here’s the set list, if you are going to the show somewhere down the road.
NHL Western Conference Preview:
I realize Game-2 is tonight, and I should have been on this earlier, but Fridays are for teh sexy, not the hockey.
Anyway, Nashville has the goaltending to get through to the Cup. Pekka Rinne has been ridiculous this playoff season, stopping the Hawks in four and the Blues in six. His GAA is 1.41, and he has a .950 save percentage. Up front, Nashville has two solid scoring lines, and on the back end PK Subban has been the spark the Preds defence has needed to get over the hump.
Anaheim has to find a way to use their size as an advantage. They have some speed, but really need to crash the smaller Predators forwards around if they wat to make this series go longer than four games. Getzlaf & Silferberg really need to be more of a presence, and if Kevin Bieksa isn’t 100%, John Gibson, a goalie best described as “serviceable”, isn’t enough to get the Ducks to their second Cup final in team history. Plus, Fuck Ryan Kesler.
(Hopeful) Prediction: Predators in six. I hope it kills Gary Bettman whilst backhandedly validating his southern-ish expansion.
Tonight’s sports:
- NHL:
- Predators at Ducks – 7:30PM | NBCSN / Sportsnet
- MLB:
- Astros at Yankees – 7:30PM | ESPN / TSN
- MLS:
- New York Red Bulls vs. LA Galaxy – 6:00PM | FS1 / TSN2
- FC Dallas vs. New York City FC – 8:00PM | FS1
Also, what the fuck is so special about ABC’s Sunday Night programming they can’t put the real NBA Finals – Spurs-Warriors – on in the evening? The game was at 3:30ET. Do more people watch “Once Upon A Time”? WHY EVEN BOTHER?!

Wow. The hot one from The Leftovers doesn’t really narrow it down but this girl is hot.
Snoop wouldn’t be there, he wouldn’t spend time with anything involving bloods.
OOF, good one.
I still have a crush on 2017 Laetitia Casta, but in the mid-90s she was more important to me than God.

Agreed; maybe “punished” is way too much of an understatement.

TRUE WCS FACT: When I was about twelve or 13, they asked for extras in the movie Sudden Death, starring Jean-Claude Van Damm and Powers Boothe. My dad, my younger brother, and I were part of the crowd scenes during the “hawkey game.”
I know the movie sucked, but, Powers Boothe was always a great villain. This one hits a little closer to home, not just because of that craptacular movie, but, because, Deadwood is one of my “desert island” TV shows.
IMO; Deadwood is some of the best TEEVEE ever. Not for everyone, but so good.
Boothe did some bad movies, but was always good.
Sudden Death and Red Dawn, chief among them.
Red Dawn sucked ass. I will die on this hill against anyone who says otherwise. WOLVERINES.
It is, however, a great movie for discussing anti-Soviet paranoia in the 1980s.
In today’s world they would have digitized it to be Uzbekistan.
Unless Uzbekistan is invading Kyrgyzstan, or, maybe Mali or Niger, that ain’t happenin’…
They replaced China with North Korea in an invasion movie; same odds is where I was going with that Mr. Expert.
https://www.wired.com/2012/08/north-korea-invades-america/
HEY PAL; that paranoia made a few people a LOT of money.
Agreed; he was the only thing good in either…… well, there was some great gifs…..
Guess it’s my turn.
Bon Jovi (fuck you, I was 12)

Dark Star Orchestra (a bunch of times)

Chris Isaak
Avett Brothers
Shemekia Copeland
Jason Isbell
Alejandro Escovedo
Town Mountain
JJ Grey & MOFRO
Old 97’s
Various others that beer has pushed deeper into my memory than I’m able access right now
I have a few in common:
Bob Dylan
Buddy Guy
The Dead
Fleetwood Mac
Neil Young w/ Crazy Horse
Paul Simon
Eric Clapton
John Prine
Chris Isaak
I was a little worried about Simon and Garfunkel. It was I believe the last show of the reunion tour and when they opened up with Old Friends, their voices wavered a bit, but they were lights out the rest of the night. And they brought out the Everly Brothers to do a few songs which was cool as hell to see.
I saw Dylan solo once, once with Merle Haggard which I won front row tickets for, and once with the Dead. The Dead show was the only time he seemed even remotely interested in being there.
I was really disappointed with the low turnout for the John Prine show. Guys one of the best writers on the planet and he has a house in the area, and the theatre was still half empty.
If you’re not familiar with Jason Isbell, check him out. He’s maybe the best under-50 songwriter working today. He started out with the Drive By Truckers and was pretty much mentored as a kid by David Hood, the session bassist from Muscle Shoals records.
A friend saw a “bunch of old fuckers” including Simon in NOLA and said they were fantastic. I saw Dylan on the Blood on the Tracks tour and it was fucking great; I was just a long ways away. I saw him when he did his revival religious phase tour and it was TERRIBLE, the band and backup singer were great musically, it was soaked in religion, a fucking sermon; it SUCKED.
NEIL DIAMOND!

I won tickets to Metallica by being caller six to the local drive-time sports talk in Friday. I have no interest in this show (also not into music/concert-going is an exhaustive effort).

I was in the third row to see Isaak; it was ~80% women….. I was high as fuck on the estrogen/ pheromones. The dude brought it….. he had a great suit game too.
Isaak was a great fucking show. And I give the band major credit for sticking with those suits even though it was an outdoor show in St Pete in June. You could see them all just drenched in sweat, so much so that they had noticeably sweated completely through those thick ass suits. That was right when they put out that Sun Records tribute so I got to hear him do a bunch of cool shit.
Same thing at Red Rocks; the blue velvet suit almost killed him.
Red Rocks is #1 on my bucket list of places to see a show. That and the cave at Bluegrass Underground.
A little different back in the day; but well worth it.
God damn it, Powers Boothe died.

So much for the Deadwood movie.
I still need to finish watching that series. I know I made it to the point that Ron Swanson hangs dong, but I never finished it.
But in all seriousness sorry to hear the news
Is that Sean Spicer as a kid?
My list of concerts is weird.
The Cure
Echo and the Bunnymen
Sepultura
Pantera
Guns n Roses
Los Amigos Invisibles
Garbage
Beck
RBD
Plus a few others I can’t remember.
Plus the second Lollapalooza and a couple of KROQ Weenie Roasts with various bands.
Weirdly, the loudest band was Echo and the Bunnymen….
First concert; CNS&Y; Mile High Stadium.
Worst concert; Foghat or Fleetwood Mac (first tour with Buckingham/Nicks; they had NOT played enough together at that time) both of these shows were in Grand Junction, Colorady.
I’d like to see another CSNY reunion before they start dropping off. I’m kind of fucking amazed they’re all still alive.
Especially Crosby; I saw Graham and him; his voice was trashed, as the cheeto would say sad.
Yeah, they all lived pretty hard but Crosby was way out there. That’ll make it a little rough for a reunion then. Kinda hard to pull off four part harmonies if one of the voices is shit, and that’s not even accounting for Neil’s nasal squall.
Young’s voice worked great with them when they were together. The other one that went away was Stills; I heard him on something recently and it didn’t have any of the old sound; it sounded like a smoker’s voice.
Garbage and Beck would have been fun to see I assume
There was a listing of bands you saw live on page 1. I figured I’d add mine. It is pretty short, has 2 I am proud of, 2 that aren’t good
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Foo Fighters
Korn
Motion City Soundtrack
I know I have been to more. Honestly blanking on them right now. My thought process on concerts is like watching sports. ‘Hey you know you can listen to a better version at home for no money and without the terrible stadium’
See, a lot of the problem with mine is orchestras don’t count in terms of “bands,” apart from Trans-Siberian and Electric Light. Good news is thanks to the obligatory school spring shebang this isn’t an almost empty list!
Matisyahu (at my HS for some reason…)
Sonny Rollins
Bacon Brothers Band
Drake (who sucked and I didn’t understand how he got big due to how much he sucked)
Streetlight Manifesto
Bayside
Das Racist
Miracles of Modern Science
Mitski (doesn’t include playing with her at school)
U.K.
The only ones I paid for were MoMS and U.K. though!
I think they count.
I’d say the soloist would be worth the feather in the cap. One of my personal favorites was actually Paul Newman narrating Lincoln Portrait with the St. Louis Symphony. Here is the piece, even if not with Paul Newman.

I dig the Vimeo search results under “Erotic”
Thanks to you fuckers when I see MF porn the thought immediately pops into my head “She seems nice.” Now sometimes gangbang images pop up and the thought is “Um, she’s kinda busy; can I have her call you back?”
That is a VERY specialized genre of gay porn.

I’ve seen Neil seven times. All of them very good, all of very different, even when he did the same songs, they were different versions in some way. Last time I saw him at Red Rocks with the Pretenders; both old bands rocked the fuck out.
Saw him in West Palm with Lucinda Williams opening up. Awesome show, but people were flipping out because he did the entire Greendale album. He had an elaborate video presentation and stage show to accompany the album but they booed the shit out of him because he wasn’t playing the hits.
People suck. That’s putting it mildly.
