According to the calendar, June 21 is the official start of Summer in the Northern Hemisphere as well as the longest day in the year.

HOWEVAH, the defacto start of summer in the United States is always Memorial Day Weekend, which is next weekend. US summers run from Memorial Day Weekend to Labor Day Weekend.

In fact, here is a handy guide to the US seasons:

• Memorial Day to Labor Day = Summer Season
• Labor Day to Valentine’s Day = Football Season
• Valentine’s Day to Spring Break = Winter Fuck You Weather Season
• Spring Break to Memorial Day = Spring Season

I am told by the reliable Canadian sources on this here site that the defacto start of Summer in Canada is always May 2-4 Weekend, which coincides with Victoria Day (as Queen Victoria was born on May 24th) and is celebrated the Monday before May 25th which is THIS WEEKEND. Our lovable neighbors call it 2-4 Weekend because of the obligatory 24 bottles of beer that one must purchase and consume this weekend. I believe it is Canadian law or something.
