NFL Notes:

• This is sad – Vince Wilfork’s son has been arrested for stealing & selling his father’s Super Bowl rings, plus other football jewelry.
  • The charge is theft of property over $300,000.
    • Wilfork’s two Super Bowl rings and two AFC championship rings he won with the Patriots, along with a college championship ring from his career at Miami, were among the stolen jewelry.
  • Wilfork discovered they were missing from his Texas home in May 2020 but didn’t report them as stolen because he thought they might have been in storage at his Florida home.
    • He found out what happened when a Patriots fan contacted him because he bought them off the son for $62,000.
    • Most of it has been recovered, and is sitting safely in storage down at the police station.

• Let’s look at some second-tier QB news:
  • Matt Nagy has stated his QB order is Dalton, Fields, then Foles.
    • Foles only moves up to #1 if Dalton gets hurt in the preseason.
      • So get ready to hear complaints about a $4 million clipboard in Chicago.
    • “There will be a process and a plan,” Nagy said. “We will stick to that.”
  • Dwayne Haskins is getting a shot to become the #3 in Pittsburgh.
    • Both Big Ben & Mason Rudolph signed new one-year deals, so the competition is to remove the sideline hat from Joshua Dobbs.
    • Mike Tomlin hopes that by improving the man, he can improve the player.
      • I’ve been more concerned about Dwayne the person,” Tomlin said. “I just want to get to know the young man and help him grow in that way.”

• Meanwhile, in first-tier QB news,

Finally, here’s a good one – the Bears might leave downtown for a suburb a minimum 30 miles away from their current home that’s offering them cheap land.

• Apparently, Arlington Heights is about to have 326 acres available where a new stadium could be built.
  • The land is currently occupied by the Arlington Park race track, which is owned by Churchill Downs Inc. (yes, the Derby people), but that property is up for sale.
    • The expectation is that the new buyer is going to tear it down and re-develop the site.
      • Although there are two bids that want to keep it a racetrack.
• The Bears still have 13 years left on their lease, but that would simply allow them to play out the string while their new home gets built.

Also, there’s apparent infighting among the Halas clan, which might result in the forced sale of the team.

• Virginia McCaskey’s will apparently splits her shares among four generations of family.
  • The younger generation don’t see the appeal of being part-owners of a sports franchise & just want their money.
• The leading candidate to purchase if they do become available? Apparently the new leader of the Heaven’s Gate, Jeff Bezos.

Things look bleak for continued links to the Bears’ Halas history. If only there were a hero to save them…
