AFL 2021 Grand Final Recap

Melbourne Demons 140 – 66 Western Bulldogs

Don’t let the final score fool you. This was a close game. Heck, the Doggies had their biggest lead of the game deep into the 3rd quarter! And then the mother of all runs started. The Demons could all of a sudden do no wrong and Western was just never able to get the momentum back. It was truly one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen. If anyone saw the Geelong-Melbourne game where the Demons came back from 41 to win After The Siren, it was reminiscent of that effort. However, it was much more than that. In the Geelong game, the Cats did regain some momentum and held the Demons scoreless for some time.

This game was different.

It was a barrage, an avalanche, and an unstoppable force all rolled up into one.

Here are the highlights:

And here they are in Mini-Match format!

Mr. Ayo, Maestro and I were the only ones to pick the Grand Final correctly and both Maestro and I moved up one spot as a result!

There was a three-way tie for third with the margins determining who finished 3rd, 4th, and 5th.

Thank you to all of you for participating this year!

Balls Sechs

  • So, that was unexpected, huh?
  • It sucks that it took a global pandemic for the Grand Final to be played outside of the MCG, but last year and this year have shown that fans in other states are willing to fill the stadiums. I hope they get a chance to have more Grand Finals outside of Victoria.
  • The Doggies played well but then got run over and couldn’t get back up.
  • The Demons, on the other hand, found about three new gears. They were relentless and were rewarded accordingly.
  • Sorry to Yeah Right and DJ Taj for dissuading you from picking the Demons as your team. You could have been celebrating a Premiership right now.
  • Last week, I said I would be surprised if it was a blowout. Well, colour me surprised!

That’s all for this season! There will be no AFL Beat until the new year when the AFLW gets going again.. I’ll be back then with a look-ahead to the 2022 AFL and AFLW seasons.

Balls somehow lost his bio and didn't realize it. He's now scrambling to write something clever and failing. He likes butts, boobs, most things that start with the letter B, and writing in the Second Person. Geelong, Toluca, Barcelona, and Steelers, in that order.

Did I hear that stat correctly at the end of Q1 that it was the first time the Demons led at the quarter of a grand final since 1964?

Game Time Decision

I did a double take with the score. Damn

yeah right

Wasn’t there like 14 unanswered goals by the Demons? It was insane. They were scoring goals just seconds apart.

There was also like a 9 unanswered goal sprint for the Dogs too. Weird game.

I watched the Grand Final highlights yesterday and man…that was a hell of a game until it wasn’t a game at all and then it was like “stop, stop, he’s already dead…”
