If you have to, you can run around on the map and find all the abandoned sites that can be reclaimed for resources. There’s enough wood there to get you started.

I’m not sure how they work, but warehouses are all linked through hyperspace or something if they’re hooked into your road network. Logs have to be turned into wood, and wood needs to get to warehouses. You’ll see wagons pulling it. But once it’s in a warehouse it’s instantly available to build other stuff. So you’re not wasting goods by putting warehouses near production buildings.

Be sure to look at how much raw material a ‘processor’ can consume. For example, a sawmill can consume the output of two lumber camps.

It’ll get headachy a little later, when you need to keep your people content. If your people are unhappy you can’t get more people until they’re happy. And they’ll get more demanding. If you screw up and make too many production sites (ex: mines and foundries), you can shut them off while you use the people to fix whatever other problem you might have.
