TGIF! We have one last weekend of JV hardwood ball remaining. Enjoy those hoops.

Survival – Personal Edition

The sun is out and the temps are over 60°. That’s means it’s outdoor drinking and grilling time! And, whoops, you just set your lawn on fire. Here’s a handy guide to avoid burning down your entire neighborhood.

  • Gather some fire fighting tools. First water. This can be a hose, buckets of water, the kiddie pool, or your above ground pool. You can also grab a couple shovels and rakes.
  • Take those tools and try to smother the fire. Liberally apply all sources of water to the flames and unburnt grass and vegetation in the path of the fire. You can also use the shovel to cover the flames with dirt or sand. You can also use the shovel to directly tamp out flames. Regardless of method, stay well back of the flames and out of the path of the fire.
  • Locate any possible fuel sources in the path of the fire and get them out of the way. Rake any loose leaves or brush out of the path of the fire.
  • If you’re losing the battle, use the shovel and rakes to clear a path to safety. Also, call your local fire service as they’ll be able to professionally control and extinguish the fire.

Now that the fire is out, go ahead and just order a pizza. Clean up the yard while its getting delivered and plan on making a fire safe area where you can drink and grill in the future.
