Why yes, I’ve just begun 1975’s Images In a Convent! I’m beginning my (director) Joe D’Amato phase, as one does when going down these sploitation holes. It would appear that the genre consists of either a high falutin’ society lass forced to enter a convent and she eventually learns of the depraved goings-on there and (of course) partakes. The other angle is that of a prostitute sentenced to the same place and coaxing all those hidden desires to the surface. This genre took off in Italy in the 70’s and is sorta interesting to see how filmmakers dealt with religious/sexual themes that were always tugging at one another in that country. Some titles you may want to check out include The Lady of Monza, Roman Scandals ’73, The Nun and the Devil, Beautiful Antonia-First a Nun Then a Demon and Flavia the Heretic. I have to admit, these titles drag me in.
NFL News:
Money Continues to Talk: Oh look over here-The Carlyle Group-one of the private equity companies that the NFL has deigned to allow to bid for ownership stakes in NFL teams-has been employing NFLPA executive director Lloyd Howell Jr as a consultant! Yes, Carlyle’s aerospace and defense investment division needed his expertise. That’s the same Howell that agreed with the owners to keep the info about the collusion case secret regarding no one after Deshaun Watson getting a fully-guaranteed contract. Talk about your captured union.
Crime Notes: Vikes lb Dallas Turner was scammed out of 240k when a scammer called him and told him that someone was using his identity to scam his money so to prevent that scam he was to send 120k to two separate scam accounts. All of $2,500 has been recovered so far, which was probably left behind as a thank you gesture.
The Good Stuff: Rookies start first but the actual good stuff regarding training camp starts in a mere 10 days. That’ll fly by.
Tonight’s Action: Because there’s so little going on we can pretend that this is Cooper Flagg’s pro debut.
I think I’m going to try making Cowboy Caviar this weekend. T’was just not a thing growing up in my neck of the woods. Have you made it? If you share the recipe, know that I’ll be cutting back on the cilantro portion of the recipe 110%.
