Well, the three week summer vacation I kinda get when there are no gigs ends this weekend when I’m back at it. How did I do?
-Went to Sagamore Hill with Senorita Weaselo after our original plans fell through. Met a Teddy & Edith Roosevelt re-enactor couple. I did fine at Bird, Beast, Fish, which we played with said re-enactors.
-Did a Pokémon Go event in Brooklyn. There wasn’t anything happening in terms of, like, merch and shit, so I didn’t get a Team Instinct pin or anything, but I had nothing to do that day so I just raided and charged my phone at the World Cup pop-up they let us chill at where I had an aggressively average mezcal margarita but it was comped (or it would have been 19 fucking dollars). And stopped by my favorite coffee shop, possibly anywhere, Tadaima in Industry City, where I got a maple matcha and cherry vanilla Breton.

I eventually met up with Senorita Weaselo at the ferry terminal that afternoon to…
-Finally correctly see Manhattanhenge! As opposed to going uptown, we went from Union Square so there was a view. (Manhattanhenge is the twice-yearly phenomenon where the setting sun lines up with the approximately 29° tilt of the New York City grid. The result is the following shot:)

-Two whole baseball games! One with Senorita Weaselo at conveniently close by Citi Field (as she is nominally a Mets fan though I’m working on it, and seats were like 25 bucks and we were 1st base side just past the dugout, like 10 rows back), one on my own Monday night in the Boogie-Down (12 rows back, and also 3 decks).
-The Brooklyn Nocturnes are in the playoffs as the 3rd seeded top wild card team, finishing the year at 18-12. The Wild Card Series opponent awaits—we started and finished the last series early because the other guy is away all this next week so it’s one less thing to worry about. Master statisticians (okay, me) are working on every possible remaining playoff permutation—maybe I can actually write it out next week, because some of them get into fun, convoluted 4-team ties where last season’s standings become the tiebreaker.
So that’s the gist of the goings-on. The autumn will start soon and training camps are right around the corner where we’ll get that weekly fix we seek. Or in my case, gigs to distract that my team is absolute shit.
But what’s on tonight? Well we got baseball (but I think on local channels), MLS soccer (nobody cares, especially after the month of good lesser footy we just got), and… the WNBA on the USA Network? (Connecticut vs. Indiana at 8)
Well, at least it’s not that long of a wait to football!
