Sharkbait’s Cocktail of the Week: Vacation!

Ok, I know it seems weird to be on vacation up in Maine after two weeks on FOB Cape Cod, but such is the situation for the Sharkbait clan. In my defense, the previous two weeks were spent working normal (and sometimes not normal) hours for the day job. From Tuesday until today I’ve been off at least, so that’s been nice.

What this means for my weekly word dump, is that once again I’ve got nothing like my usual posts. I’ve written about cocktails I’ve had up here before. But this hasn’t been much of a cocktailing trip up here. Aside from the evening deck drinks Mrs. Sharkabit and I have been having after the kids have their later and drawn out bedtimes. So, that’s what I’m gonna put here

Vacation Dark and Stormy

2ish oz (eyeballed) Goslings Black Rum

Goslings Ginger beer

Lime Wedge

Add ice to a solo cup. Eyeball about 2ish ounces of the rum, maybe more depending how rough bedtime was. Fill the rest of the cup with the ginger beer. Squeeze the lime wedge in.

Shit. Too dark.
There we go.

Oh yeah. This hits hard after a long day of playing at the amusement park and the arcade. Definitely a classic vacation drink.

I wrote this in 2020 the last time I discussed a dark and stormy, and it still rings true today:

“The drink has a faint ginger smell from the ginger beer, and the lime adds a pleasant zip. It’s floral and effervescent as well.

The dryness of the ginger beer is what comes across immediately on the first sip. After that, the ginger flavor starts to take over, with added depth and sugary sweetness from the rum. The lime’s acidity helps prevent the drink from being too saccharine.”

That’s why this is a classic drink. Perfect for the tail end of Beach season and the unofficial end of summer.

Me and my good friend ChatGPT are going to replace the backup battery in the Fios landline telephone system. Me and ChatGPT. Together.

“We’ll install it together, step-by-step, and then deliberately kill AC power to the BBU”

My heavens.

yeah right

That sounds damn delicious.

I’ll have 3.

Check out my $0.88 chair. It’s pretty good.

Score!

How do you all (zymm?) feel about Purdy as a mid to late round keeper in a 2 QB league? Keep in mind: mortgaged the future last year and didn’t win, so gonna suck.

SonOfSpam

I have him in one of my money leagues, paired with Fatthew as 1a/1b. When Purdy and his WRs are healthy, he’s above average in fantasy. Mid-to-late round? Sure, why not?

Doktor Zymm

Yeah, he’s boring and reliable, in a system where he’s always gonn have a reasonable floor. Won’t knock your socks off, but maybe you wanna keep your socks on, maybe it’s a bit chilly and you want warm toes

BrettFavresColonoscopy

Ugh, I hate sleeping with socks on but good points all around

Doktor Zymm

Can’t go wrong with a good dark and stormy, it’s a classic for a reason

I took the car for a wash this morning as it was getting a bit difficult to see out the side windows. There’s way more light in there now. Maybe I should start washing my car more often than every 2 or 3 years

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

I need to check but I think my solar panels are dirty enough that it’s starting to dramatically affect their efficiency. I should probably clean them every year, but I fucking hate it up there.

SonOfSpam

Might rain this weekend, problem solved.

Doktor Zymm

It rained overnight but I park under a roof and I would rather pay the $8.50 or whatever than go drive around in the rain

Doktor Zymm

Now I’m at the tire place getting a slow leak in the rear driver’s side tire looked at. There are at least 4 other people here for the same thing, same tire. What’s up with that?

Gumbygirl

I think I have one too, and I just spent bongo bucks getting my car serviced. It’s a conspiracy! Chemtrails! The Covid vaccine! Kids getting gender reassignment surgery in school!

Doktor Zymm

They found a screw in the tire, so much crap on the roads! Luckily it was covered under warranty, I always get the protection plan since moving to California and I always end up needing it

Gumbygirl

My brother visited me for a week and complained every day about how dirty my car is. It’s not dirty at all, it’s just dusty. There’s not much I can do about that, SoCal is a dusty place!

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

Yeah, I remember being shocked at how clean the streets were in Minneapolis and then realizing it was because it regularly rains there.

Doktor Zymm

That was probably the most surprising thing when I moved here, anything left outside gets crazy dirty just from the air quality. I hadn’t realized what a difference regular rain makes just getting particulate matter out of the air!

Enjoy your vacation.

My late season vaca this year will be seaside in October, so that’s odd for us too. But any vacation anywhere any time is always good.

There’s a new lady runner that I’m seeing on my routes from time to time who is really stacked. She is not friendly however. What’s up with that?

When I see ‘vaca’ I red it s the Spanish for cow and I really enjoyed the image of a cow in a sun hat enjoying the beach!

SonOfSpam

Probably cranky due to boobs hitting face.

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

We’ve got a number of bottles of ginger beer left over from when the Dr. Mrs. still consumed carbohydrates. I like dark & stormys just fine, but given my druthers I’ll usually mix something else, so these things are probably going to run into their expiration date pretty soon.

Speaking of expiration dates…

“TSA Pre Check, cause why would the government focus on getting the ‘regular’ check in process streamlined? It’s only been 20 years.”

God I fucking hate our government.

2Pack

Some of that is the fact that a lot of the traveling public is clueless and slow moving.

Doktor Zymm

If the security theater isn’t painfully slow then people might not believe that it’s safe. They would be correct, but we can’t have everyone realizing it’s a total sham I guess

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

If it’s so easy to circumvent then how come all your plots to hijack the X-7 have failed?

Actually, now I have an idea for a Thomas Crown Affair/Oceans 12 movie featuring supervillains making a heist wager and the joke/twist is that they don’t give two shit about collateral damage.
