The mock draft yesterday was fantastic, led me down a lot of rabbit holes.  But one of the things was a short discussion about Susana Hoffs, and low and behold I found this:

MSNBC is reporting on Greg Abbott’s barbed wire laced floating barrier and using phrases like “digging in his heels” and “does he have a leg to stand on” and you can’t convince me they don’t know exactly what they’re doing.

There aren’t many people who deserve to spend their lives without the use of their legs, confined to a wheelchair and probably in constant pain, but Greg Abbott is definitely one of them.

First impression of Anno 1800: This game needs a tutorial or tutorial mode, the ‘more guidance’ mode is complete crap that doesn’t help at all. I’m less than 10 minutes in and I already have to restart because following the prompts put me in a situation where it’s impossible to build anything because I don’t have enough timber to build a warehouse but I can’t produce timber without a warehouse.

If you have to, you can run around on the map and find all the abandoned sites that can be reclaimed for resources. There’s enough wood there to get you started.

I’m not sure how they work, but warehouses are all linked through hyperspace or something if they’re hooked into your road network. Logs have to be turned into wood, and wood needs to get to warehouses. You’ll see wagons pulling it. But once it’s in a warehouse it’s instantly available to build other stuff. So you’re not wasting goods by putting warehouses near production buildings.

Be sure to look at how much raw material a ‘processor’ can consume. For example, a sawmill can consume the output of two lumber camps.

It’ll get headachy a little later, when you need to keep your people content. If your people are unhappy you can’t get more people until they’re happy. And they’ll get more demanding. If you screw up and make too many production sites (ex: mines and foundries), you can shut them off while you use the people to fix whatever other problem you might have.

And I got to deal with the same problems you are because I bought it during the Steam sale, for 1/2 off. I haven’t played it a lot lately, because it’s getting bumped out by Ark Nova on Boardgamearena.

I fixed that, but now it won’t let me build a bridge even though I have enough planks or whatever in stock, and without the bridge I can’t get clay. I’m getting about ready to quit, I’ve played a bunch of city/world builders and this just feels poorly designed. The voices of the characters are also irritating me and the soundtrack is a bit meh. Overall putting me in kind of a bad mood, which is nawt what I look for in a game :/

Then it yelled at me for not connecting the warehouse yet gave no guidance whatsoever on why it refused to build the stupid bridge other than saying I don’t have enough planks even though I have loads and loads of extra planks by this point

Depends on the game. They pretty much all have something like a pub/tavern/bar, theatre, etc. I’m not sure I’ve even seen an actual brothel, but cabarets and casinos absolutely

I couldn’t find it, but I remember some crazy geezers with tweezers wargame that covered WW2 in North Africa at battalion level. The Italians had a mobile brothel unit. Their water usage (remember, North Africa) was also higher because of the need to boil their pasta for supper.

Well shit. Did it put up that blueprint mode image of the bridge? It won’t build that for you automatically – you’ll either have to go to it and click the now active button in the panel. Or you can delete it and rebuild it.

They gotta do something to keep viewers engaged. So, they bring in a kooky, completely unbelievable character that says zany things to try to keep the franchise on life support.

Only new thing in the arrest warrant is the text from 3 weeks ago. They describe a mental health crisis where he talked about a lot of violent actions including killing himself in court, and multiple mentions of people who owe him money.
Doesn’t sound like he has the mental capacity right now to organize something like a school shooting as generally those people are a completely sane sort of fucked up, but of course the press seizes on the mentions of a school shooting because now this is in the national news while his three other arrests this year weren’t.
Dude needs help, and good thing that he’s off the streets, but this sort of coverage is pretty crap.

That stuff is my cleaner of choice. Works like a champ on just about everything, and it’s cheap as hell. I have a ginormous jug of it that should last years, because it’s so concentrated. That reminds me, I need to buy a couple of spray bottles so I can dilute it to various strengths

My sister-in-law, the teacher, was telling me about kids getting into trouble on the school’s PCs for looking for ‘strippers’. The kids said they were looking for ‘stripers’, like the fish. Uh huh. If it was me, their asses would be in bigger trouble for thinking I’d buy that excuse than they would be for trying to see a boob on the internet.
