This is probably the best photo I ever took. It’s my young niece Anna (who is now a college graduate) at my sister’s house a few years back. There’s a high skylight upper right rear that is the back kicker light, and a reflector bouncing that light as the key. This was Ektachrome 200 on my Leica 50mm lens. Plus, Anna was the greatest model ever, all I had to do was light her, set focus, and press the button.

If you’re shooting (with a camera) in the rain, particularly from a moving platform, mount an optical glass flat in front of the lens. Cut an apple in half and rub the flat part on the weather side of the glass, coating it with appleness. This will repel water like magic, and it really does work.

I am almost purely angry this time. Depression and despair were so 2016. And I’ve been able to turn off my mind at least a little (so I can fucking sleep), but the anger grows on a daily basis. So far, at least.

As much as anything, this has been an object lesson that I always believed, deep down – but suppressed giving into.

Hate is much stronger than love. Hate is the fuel that keeps human society humming. One doesn’t have to like it to accept it.

I figured out a way that works for me.

During the pandemic I was all in on news and reading long form pieces on all of the fucked up shit on the world then I realized I was still doing it.

After Tuesday I took the news station off of my radio preset and now I just listen to KROQ.

i canceled my news letters that focused on the fucked up world we live in and now I just don’t fucking care. I’m going to keep working, I’ve got my books and sports and movies for entertainment and the countdown to exit clock is ticking.

I’m going to make a few more bucks then I’m getting out of this idiot country and will never deal with politics or any more bullshit from here on.

Got to tell you, it’s working so far.

It’s on the Wild Atlantic Coast, right on Galloway Bay and we stopped there on our tour to the Cliffs of Moher to have a pint.

We just looked at each other and said “We don’t HAVE to get back on that bus.”

It was magical.

It’s the way to go. I listen to CBC on a regular radio the size of a cinder block in my kitchen. 24 hour news and the spiral it can get you in a is a nasty trick to the mind.
Books, movies, real people. Not the shock and horror of the news money grub.
Oh, and a dangerous amount of alcohol. That helps. Up to you but I can’t stop at this point.

That was the best thing about doing road trips. Love listening to music in different towns.

You get out in the lower desert on old route 66 and there’s some scary ass stations out there.

I stayed overnight in Gallup New Mexico then listened to a Navajo station for the next 2 hours. That was pretty cool but they played a lot of old classic rock.
