Hello and welcome to the weekend. This week’s cocktail is quick and easy for good reason. In the dying seconds of my hockey game on Wednesday, while we were getting blown out, I somehow managed to roll or sprain my ankle attempting to make another of my at least 45 plus saves.
Thankfully, the injury is nowhere close to the severity of injuries I’ve had in the past in this league; namely the three shoulder dislocations leading to surgery on said shoulder. However there is still a bit of swelling and being on my feet can get a bit uncomfortable/slightly painful after a few minutes, despite the heroic efforts of the Motrin I’ve been taking as soon as the schedule allows for more. Somewhere Hippo is sad that nothing stronger is available.
Along with better living through pharmaceuticals, the best way to treat a mild sprain is the RICE Method. RICE being an acronym for:
R – rest
I – ice
C – compression
E – elevation
So what does this have to do with a cocktail this week? I decided to have a little fun with the acronym and make up my own version while doing the aforementioned RICE:
R – rye
I – ice
C – citrus peel
E – enjoy
It’s rye, with a twist. Not much more than that. It’s tasty and the lemon twist adds a nice citrus zing to the whiskey, altering the flavor just a little bit. It’s the perfect drink to nurse a sprained ankle as well as a bruised ego from the shellacking I took the previous game. So…yeah, sorry for not going more in depth on something more complex than whiskey and lemon, but standing and preparing and mixing isn’t the best move right now. Hopefully I’ll be up to A) playing again and B) mixing more drinks next weelk.
