This despite the fact that the Senators are in the last wild card spot, are on a lovely run, have a game in hand on most other teams and hold all the tie-breakers. As the sun rises in the East, the Red Wings are stumbling down the stretch-Yzermanball just isn’t working.

The Moneyed Folk Have Spoken:

UNC’s cash-flush alumni helped push very average Hubert Davis out the door and left it open long enough for Michael Malone to waltz in, if rumors are true. An odd choice, given that he has 12 NBA seasons under his belt, though he did cut his teeth as an assistant with Manhattan, Providence and Oakland back in the day.

UCONN/MICH:

-I’m not going to pretend that I know much about either of these teams but…

-Though they are a #2 seed and only have 5 losses it feels like the Huskies are playing with free money. Should they lose it’s ok-they’ve got the #10 and rising best recruiting class next year. (though that isn’t nearly as important as it was only five years ago)

-The Wolverines had the second-toughest strength of schedule this regular season and that has prepared them well for this tourney. They’re winning games by an average of 21.6 points and no opponent has come within single digits while losing. I dare say they’ve got a wee bit of momentum.
