I Watched It So That You Don’t Have To-Christmas Song

So there are these two new music teachers at a mixed private school. They’re both single [pokes invisible friend in ribs] but she’s got a classical background and he’s more of a with-it pop music guy. She’s a Type A and he’s the easy-going sort. Plus they are both enlisted to compete in a televised Christmas song competition with their students and the winning teacher is guaranteed a job! There are SO MANY barriers being set up between them. How are they ever going to get together?

Our combatants are played by Natasha Henstridge and Gabe Logan(?) I think this may have been shot over three days because Nat’s entire wardrobe consists of a tight-fitting red dress, a tight-fitting green dress and a tight-fitting blue dress. Can I say something about the set design? Yes? Okay. At some point about twenty minutes in I noticed that there are Xmas decorations in every, I mean EVERY shot. There are no exceptions that I could find. And to boot they are Xmas colours-silver tinsel, light and dark shades of green and red that come at you from every direction. The background stuff is the most optically harassing because it is soft-lit and the colours bleed/blur into each other so much that you think you’re crying.

The cringeing-est plot device comes about when they both go on-line (to the very same site, no less!) create a profile and end up meeting each other on a blind date. “There must be some kind of mistake!” Nat stammers before stomping away. Later that evening their respective best buddies both convince them to create a profile that’s the complete opposite. Do you see what’s coming? (her on Christmas morning multiple times no doubt*) Of course they end up on another date and she’s having none of it but Gabe throws out the smooth line (sticks finger down throat) “Do you want to sit down, have a glass of wine and figure out how this whole thing happened?” Well, they’ve got far more in common than they thought after they start yakking about the “good old days”.

Nat’s Big Reveal Once She Finally Let’s Her Guard Down?-She caught her ex cheating on [chokes back tears] Christmas Eve! How could he?

As far as the singing competition goes, they combine their teams and knock everyone’s socks off and both keep their jobs and so they get to spend EVERY SINGLE DAY TOGETHER AT WORK AND AT HOME FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIVES.

That’s some happy ending.

*did I mention that her dresses were form-fitting?
