Your “Thanks For Asking” Wednesday Open Thread

NFL pre-Week 3 preseason games notes:

  • on the heels of his practice fight with the Bears last week comes news the Patriots are cutting Center Brian Stork. [UPDATE: traded to the [*Redacted] s for a 7th Round pick.]
  • PFT is alleging that the Browns denied wanting to trade Josh Gordon in order to see if there’s interest from other teams in trading for Josh Gordon. It’s always sad to see a dealer turn on a loyal customer.
  • good times at Seahawks practice – Doug Baldwin & Richard Sherman went at it after Baldwin scorched Sherman on a route.
  • speaking of trips with Beastmode, the real Beastmode is with Cal in Australia for the start of the Pac-12 season. He even took some practice squad reps, because fuck yeah why not?!
“Make enough money, and you can say whatever you want. Be ’bout that action.”
  • A merging of douche Venns.

In the “For Fuck’s Sake!” department, ESPN & PFT are ‘reporting’ that up to “20 teams” will attend Tebow’s tryout day next Tuesday.

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, who played two seasons of minor league baseball in the Colorado Rockies organization, was recently asked by TheMMQB.com whether he had any advice for Tebow.

“Hope he can hit a curveball,” Wilson said, adding that “baseball’s pretty hard.”

    • If that limp-armed virgin somehow gets signed, I’m dusting off the blocker and showing up to Canucks camp.

Finally, for a second day in a row, ESPN The Magazine has an excellent long-form article for your reading pleasure. This one is about the rise & fall of daily fantasy sites like FanDuel & Draft Kings. The interesting thing I got from it was that anti-online gambling laws actually facilitated the swift rise. I mean – I’d heard the stories, but the article spells it out nicely for a layman like me.

As you read the article, have a chuckle at recalling how many times JB pimped the site on “FOX NFL Sunday”.

I got this in my mail today:

The hook? “Don’t miss a minute of the action in Smashville as the Predators seek to return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs again in 2017 as part of the NHL’s elite Central Division.” Well, they’ve got me there, because I’m stuck with the Oilers, Flames & Coyotes in the Pacific.

Over-enthusiastic? You bet! Promo Code: ROCKOUT

This. This should be your selling point.

In respect of a comment in last night’s Open Thread, time to pour one for a Law & Order classic who aged pretty well.

Steven Hill – this guy

Aged 94. According to IMDb, he was “born in Seattle, Washington, in 1922, as Solomon Krakovsky, to Russian Jewish immigrants.” His first big role was starring alongside Hedy Lamarr in “A Lady Without Passport”.

He was also on the original “Mission: Impossible” TV show, but was fired because he refused to work on the Sabbath; he was replaced by Peter Graves. Pretty good career. I hope he and Jerry Orbach are hunting down perps in the afterlife.

I start school again tomorrow. I can’t sleep because even though my financial aid went through on the national level 2 weeks ago my actual college seems to be pretending that never happened. Also I almost went into full seizures today on a probably more related note than I will admit. I did schedule my classes knowing me so I still can get 7 hours if I fall asleep soon. This schedule has me there til 10 pm but I am fine with that if I don’t have to go in at 7 or 8 am.

JerBear50

I took some online classes a few years back and it was fucking great for my schedule. Working nights with a job that has a ton of down time (as my nightly hours on here can attest) meant I was able to knock out classes with very little work having to be done at home.

Unsurprised

I’ve been skimming twitter feeds because I am an idiot. So I should go to bed now

Why is it so satisfying watching people suffer genital trauma?

Semi-not old Green Day. Four years more or less…which still seem impossible in and of itself..
But really gone now.

Also watching Angels at Blue Jays, playing in Toronto, with the CN Tower in the background. On August 16,1977, as a young lad in the videogame room high atop the CN Tower, I first heard that Elvis Presley had died. True story.

Mr. Ayo

Did you almost cry?

Brick Meathook

I cried almost as hard as I cried on VJ Day.

Spanky Datass

Holy shit! I was at a mall in Dallas the same day hoping to get a chance to play Space Invaders when I heard the news.

Sill Bimmons

The fact that you call this “Old Green Day” makes me feel like Imhotep.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

theeWeeBabySeamus

Agreed. But it has recently been brought to my attention that in spite of how old I may or may not be and/or feel…more than 10 yrs old is old.

Yup…new Green Day. Come October you fuckers will be sorry you ever met me….as if you aren’t already, right?

Sill Bimmons

I saw Green Day for the first time in 1989 at a show on LBI with fewer than 200 people when things were shit for them.

The only thing I remember from that show was the fucking drums.

It made up for everything along the way.

BrettFavresColonoscopy

Popped into a bar to have a drink and listen to some live music. The drummer is distractingly bad. So do I order another cocktail or just go back to my Airbnb and have a beer?

Sill Bimmons

B

theeWeeBabySeamus

Both?
And yeah, in spite of my own percussion suckage currently (but working on it), I’m always distracted by someone who supposedly knows what they should be doing but doesn’t.

BrettFavresColonoscopy

When he plays under control, it’s good. He’s just trying to do too much, rushing, and getting sloppy and loud in weird places. I’ve never seen so much unnecessary hihat pedal usage.

theeWeeBabySeamus

LMFAO….da fuq???????
Gentle and also mobile pegger?

Moose -The End Is Well Nigh

What does the scenery look like would be my influence.

theeWeeBabySeamus

Translation: Bewbs?????

BrettFavresColonoscopy

The bartender is indeed attractive, just not on the same level as the one from the previous two nights.

So yeah, you got why I really chose this bar tonight.

Just finished Stranger Things. I very much enjoyed it; it was quite good. However, I fail to see how it’s a shift in the paradigm cultural phenomena I was led it to be.

Did you hear about the WIPocalypse?

Josh Innes has been shitcanned for being Josh Innes and all hell is breaking loose:

ITS GLOARIOUS

Sill Bimmons

Wasn’t the biggest fan of Stranger Things because there were three “A” plots, none of which converged convincingly enough for me.

The high school kids plot should have been minimized if not eliminated entirely.

That would have left them a lot of budget to clean up the CGI.

The terrible, terrible CGI.

Just starting work on a big piece about hate and the difference between the “hate” we all love about this place and the real hate that causes shit like what happened to my Ghanaian Uber driver tonight.

That’s brain shit. If there’s one thing I know, it’s brain shit.

I’ll make sure I schedule it with DTZM so I don’t step on any toes because I have a LOT to say.

Now if I can just bring my laptop back from the dead…

theeWeeBabySeamus

I am intrigued.

It’s all in the amygdala, bro.

/isn’t all in the amygdala, bro

theeWeeBabySeamus

I think my problems likely originate in the hypothalamus. I’m hormonal is what I’m saying.

Sill Bimmons

theeWeeBabySeamus

Both, yes. Don’t test me sill, I went to kolledge.

If so, I don’t know much more about those structures than you.

I know eyes and the visual pathway.

I went to sooper kolledge for that:
