I hope not. I read in some book about how democracies have been unusually dynamic and resilient relative to other types of governments. I think we’re just on some sort of upheaval wave right now and like them all no one knows when it will crest. I have construction projects at Holloman AFB in Alamogordo, and always enjoy my trips out there, including drives up the mountain to Cloudcroft for Taco Tuesday at the Western Bar and Grill.
The unspoiled land is gorgeous. My mail route takes me to the edge of Meadowlake (no meadows–okay, I guess weeds are meadows, but no lake) where I have a fantastic unobstructed view from only a few miles off the foot of the Sandia Mountains. Every day I see Hercules transports and other bitchin aircraft flying super low as they circle into Kirkland AFB. It’s an impressive sight, especially in wintertime.
And on Monday, I drove past a Chihuahua strolling up a residential dirt road with a used rubber dangling from its muzzle.

One of my favorite rides is from Artesia on US 82 West to Cloudcroft. I’ve spent a lot of time driving and camping in the Lincoln National Forest north of Guadalupe Mtns Nat Park. I would love to live out in that part of the world permanently. NO FUCKING PEOPLE!!!
