Your “Not A Lot Going On” Wednesday Evening Open Thread

NFL Notes:

  • Reminder: the Franchise Tag window opens tomorrow.
    • Teams have two weeks to designate an eligible player, which should be lots of fun.
  • The PI Challenge Rule might be gone before the next season starts.
    • In the annual postseason survey taken by the nine-member NFL Competition Committee, teams came out overwhelmingly agent retaining the PI replay rule that was instituted for the 2019 season.
  • The NFLPA forwarded the proposed new CBA to the full membership for an eventual vote.
    • The PA executive voted 17-14 (1) to pass it along. Because it wasn’t a 2/3 vote in support, there is no voting recommendation being added to the info.
    • Included in the latest proposal are the option to expand to a 17-game regular season, an increase in players’ share of total revenue to at least 48 percent, and the expansion of the playoff field to 14 teams beginning in 2020.
      • Owners agreed to remove a $250K cap on the 17th game check for existing contracts, but rejected a proposal to shorten the offseason. Otherwise, they made no concessions.
    • But someone who publicly opposes it? Russell Wilson.

A delightful day in the classroom unfolded when the class I was told I was substituting in – Math 11 – turned out to be a tad harder than I expected – Pre-Calculus 12. After five minutes I just looked at the kids & said “I can’t do this. I’mma go find you a qualified teacher.”

They were stunned. When queried, I told them I likely could fake it for another 10-15 minutes, but after that I was lost. “In teaching,” I said, “there are two ways to go about your business. You can teach the things you know, or you can admit you don’t know the thing you are teaching. I don’t want to have the other teacher get mad that I did it wrong, so I’ll employ the three hardest words for any person to say, but really shouldn’t be: ‘I don’t know’.”

So I found them a teacher who could actually work with the material, and I taught the remainder of that person’s Math 10 class, which was definitely more my speed. The moral of the story is that you can walk away, as long as you have a plan to resolve the issue.

And I’ll need some of this.

WTF is wrong with California Realtors? Do they just not like getting paid or what?

Such a vast number of great, stupid lines in that movie. And a hell of a rack.

Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
I listen to Metallica,
My neighbors have to, too.

Just got myself a new set of headphones, and the bass isn’t cranked to eleven, more like 21. These things are incredible, and I expect to be like Homer within a week.

Totally agree on the “I don’t know” thing. And even more on having an alternative rather than saying “I have a problem”.

/white guys that can rebound and hit free throws

I’ll take, “What makes ESPN announcers squirt?” for $500, Alex.

Redshirt

I thought that was Tom Brady palming some balls.

Paying close attention to your portfolio (as I have done lately) is less fun when it goes down almost 10% in a week.

Horatio Cornblower

I won’t retire for 15-20 years anyway, (or never, whichever), so I’ve been ignoring mine this week but I don’t suspect it’s doing great.

I love the Star Trek: DS9 episode “In the Pale Moonlight”. It is such a completely dark anti-Star Trek episode, its beautiful.

“I’ve locked him in his quarters. I’ve also left him with the distinct impression that if he attempts to force the door open it may explode.”
“I hope that’s just an impression.”
“Its best not to dwell on such minutiae.”

I watched Casablanca for the first time a few days back. Tonight is A streetcar named desire. So many great movies I have yet to watch for the simple silly reason they were made 30-50 years before I was.
It sure beats the painful slog that is today’s regular season sports.

Throw any old Orson Welles’ directed flick into that queue. Touch of Evil, The Third Man, The Trial. He was fucking brilliant as fuck before he got fat as fuck.

blaxabbath

The anti-Reid.

BC Dick

Oh yes, thanks. I even have Touch of Evil already recorded. I’ll move it up the list next to The Big Sleep and Red River for watching next. Will look for the other two.

Brick Meathook

Carol Reed directed The Third Man. Orson Welles was in it.

blaxabbath

I watched the Taylor Swift doc on Netflix and that chick is a professional through and through. I got mad respect for that.

Just want to watch Chris Jericho be a dick but have to sit through the last 5 minutes of a live action Tarzan movie that looks like dogshit

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

That movie would have been great if not for all the overt product placements of anabolic steroids and HGH. Really took me out of the story.

Redshirt

I’ve seen AEW Jericho in action. That’s worth it.

SonOfSpam

President SuperTurd is very reassuring. What a cockwallet.

I for one am looking forward to the Rapture that we can all expect now that Pence is in charge of the response. I know for a fact that John Elway is too; four of his old college buddies just let him know they’ll be in town soon for as work thing.
