Earlier this week Don T served up a touching tribute to our dear departed friend the Wee Baby Seamus. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: nobody contributed more to Request Line than tWBS did. Whether it was filling in for me when I couldn’t get my shit together, or just contributing his heart out every week, the man clearly had a lot of music in his heart. And like many great rock stars, he lived fast, loved hard, and died (relatively) young. So I thought in tribute to a year since his passing, today’s topic would be a pretty simple one: artists who left the stage tragically early. I’ll get us started with one of the most talented (and troubled) young women who ever stepped in front of a microphone.

Apparently Ocasek met Paulina Porzikova when he was 40 and she 19. Then, after 30 years of marriage, cut her out of his will saying that she’d abandoned him, despite the fact that they were still living in the same apartment and that she found him dead while bringing him coffee.
Ocasek sounds like kind of a dick.

INXS holds up incredibly well, especially when you consider how much “pop appeal” they had.

a Wolven Sort buddy of mine (and close friend of tWBS) was down for this, said it would be easy peasy with NC climate conditions.
As a former hombrewer & cultivator, I can say that doing for yourself gives great satisfaction.

As I said elsewhere, Jar of Flies to me is the best example of grunge. Pearl Jam can go suck on a gas pump. (not really, Pearl Jam is fine, except for Last Kiss which is so bad it makes Lenny Kravitz’s “music” sound good by comparison).

“No Rain” got more airplay, but this is the first of Blind Melon’s songs that I ever heard (it was their first single and then was re-released after No Rain) and I always thought it was the better song.
