INT. RECORDING STUDIO – DAY
The recording studio at KDFO looks much as we’d remember it from the before-time. There is no evidence of the PRODUCER’s long descent into quarantine madness, or of DJ 3000’s current service with the Ukraine Air Force piloting a Turkish Bayraktar drone. The PRODUCER is seated at his desk, jingling a set of keys.
PRODUCER: …and then his kids are going to have to…
DJ 3000: BLYAT!…[long pause, followed by barely audible trash talk in what sounds like a Slavic language module]…SORRY, WHAT WERE YOU SAYING?
PRODUCER: I was just saying that our ad sales director Jason took a new position. In Indiana.
DJ 3000: HUH.
PRODUCER: And you’ll never guess who he asked to help him move.
DJ 3000: OH MAN THAT SUCKS.
PRODUCER: I know, right?
DJ 3000: HE CAN’T HIRE MOVERS?
PRODUCER: He’s already stretched really thin scraping together the down payment for his new house.
DJ 3000: MAN, WHO MOVES TO INDIANA IN THE MIDDLE OF THE WINTER?
PRODUCER: Radio market is still pretty good out there. He’s going to be making more money out there than he is here.
DJ 3000: IT’S THOSE FLAT LANDSCAPES. THEY CAN BROADCAST FOREVER OUT THERE.
PRODUCER: Plus those talk radio listeners, man…it’s not just drive time for them. They’ll listen all day. You can stretch a “seven signs of evil” countdown into sixteen ad breaks.
DJ 3000: SO ARE YOU GONNA HELP?
PRODUCER: I rather not, but he was there when I needed him. Bailed me out of a hell of a jam.
DJ 3000: THAT THING WITH THE FCC?
PRODUCER: Yeah. I figure I owe him.
DJ 3000: INDEED YOU DO.
PRODUCER: So I’m gonna be driving a box trick while he drives his Subaru.
DJ 3000: WHY DON’T YOU DRIVE HIS SUBARU, AND MAKE HIM DRIVE THE BOX TRUCK?
PRODUCER: Yeah, good point. I’ll do that. But even then, I’m still gonna need some road trip music.
DJ 3000: NO SHORTAGE OF OPTIONS THERE. ARE YOU GOING TO MAKE IT INTO A REQUEST LINE TOPIC?
PRODUCER: I’ll need to limit it a bit more than just generic road trip music.
DJ 3000: HOW ABOUT ONLY SONGS THAT HAVE “STREET” OR “ROAD” IN THE TITLE?
PRODUCER: I like it. You got something to start us off with?
DJ 3000: I SURE DO. RELEASE THE MACHINES!
Today’s theme is: Streets and Roads. Song requests must include the word “street” or “road” (or “avenue” or “boulevard” or whatever).
