Game 3 of the Mann Cup was played Monday night, between the Lakers and the Thunder, and yours truly was in attendance as I have season tickets with a friend. We sit almost dead centre just a few rows from the top of the lower bowl. They are great seats. Big news for the Lakers is that Joe Resetarits is back. While he didn’t look to be 100% from the illness that kept him out the first few games, he was a welcome addition to the offence as he stretches the defence with his shooting ability.
The old joke in Canada is that we have two seasons: Winter and construction. So, with all the construction around me, I end up taking country roads half way to the arena before I can get on a highway. On the way, I pass Mosport, for all the old folks, or what’s now called “Canadian Tire Motorsport Park”. What’s funny to me is to see all the Corvettes, Porches, hot hatches and whatever coming back from their big “track day”. When it’s one or two, they are just out for a drive. When it’s 10+ of these cars in a row, it starts to look silly to me. But, whatever, you do you. Yesterday there was one of these missing the front bumper, so not so good of a track day.
On to the game:
First period:
I’ve been waiting for these teams to have one of those defensive games where every goal is hard earned and the first period definatly lived up to that bill. The first goal wasn’t scored until 7 minutes in and then it was a back and forth game with neither team pulling away. 3-2 Langley after the first period.
Second period
Peterborough scored 3 goals before Langley was able to put one past Vinc. This was not a shot, but a goal is a goal

The Lakers would put in 2 more before the end of the period, 2 goals coming in transition that sparked both the crowd and the team. We also got a penalty shot for this save in the crease.

As a runner you are not allowed to touch the ball with your hands in the crease. Out of the crease, you can hit the ball with your hand, just not put you fingers around it.
With the 5 to 1 run Peterborough was up 7-4 going into the second intermission.
Third period
The Lakers started the third period like the second and got on the board early and Langely would answer about 2 minutes later. But the Lakers then went on a 3 goal run to make the score 11-5 with just over 4 minutes to play. They traded goals late to make the final 12-6 Lakers.
Curtis Dickson lead the Thunder with a goal and 3 assists, while Robert Church had a goal and two assists. Holden Cattoni lead the Lakers with 5 goals and 3 assists and Joe Resetarits had 2 goals and 3 assists for the Lakers.
There were still a few blown goal calls, but nothing like the last goal from game 2. And part of the problem is that there is no horn when time runs out, so it’s on the refs, to determine the end of the period. Not good.
To be mean for a second, the hat game on the Langley bench needs some work. The backwards Yankee hat and visor inside leave a lot of room to be wearing something better.
