Read a thing last week about Diana Ross on her 79th birthday. She hired the Chic guys to write her 1980 record “Diana”. Nile Rodgers spent a few days interviewing her so he could write songs relevant to things in her universe. They went out to a bar one night and 7 or 8 Diana Ross impersonators in drag walked past their table. Nile called bassist Bernard Edwards and told him what an icon she was to the gay community and that if they wrote a song about “coming out” for her to sing it would be huge. He was right.
