Welcome folks, to Friday Eve. Shall we make a promise to ourselves and one another to half-ass it for four hours tomorrow? My routine is to do bunch of paperwork in the morning (pouring over sales journals mostly) go to the mail, touch bases with all the sales reps and then make phone calls most of the rest of the day and wind things up around 4pm. I’ve found myself going thru the motions recently so I’ve set a goal of acquiring 20 new accounts for our busy season. Not sure how realistic that is but I’ve always been a ‘shoot for the moon’ goals guy and it’s paid off handsomely in the past.
Coyotes Migrate:
From one hockey hotbed to another. I guess there are pockets of intense hockey fans pretty much everywhere in the U.S. so I shouldn’t rankle them. The team is expected to be sold for around 1.2 billion. One wonders why even oddball sports franchises are going for enormous amounts on the market these days. Is this the sort of exclusive club that billionaires want to buy themselves into these days? Or is it because you can hide monies and revenues so much more easily in these leagues that have little to no financial oversight? I’ll let you guess.
The Mustache Ride Has Ended:
Despite the best efforts of Canada’s “national” media, (read: embarrassingly Toronto-centric) Austen Matthews fell short of the 70 goal plateau. I’ll let the peanut gallery figure out how many he scored. A nation mourns his shortcoming. But hey!, playoffs* are just around the corner.
*not for the dreadful Red Wings though, as per the league’s updated charter
70 Goal Rabbithole Ahoy!:
Those that have scored 70 include-Esposito, Gretzky, Kurri, Lemieux, Nicholls, Hull, Mogilny and Selanne. Aside from Wayne taking the total to 92 I’ve long felt that Esposito extending Bobby Hull’s 58 goal record way up to 76 was a phenomenal accomplishment. Both Nicholls and Selanne scored totals that were 24 goals above their next-best year. At least the Finnish Flash scored 50 goals in a season another time. Bernie did not.
Making Stars Cranky Since ’93:
That would be Jerry Jones. (and son Stephen) Ceedee Lamb won’t be attending any team functions anytime soon. Seems like Dak, Zeke and Pollard all over again. Extend? Tag to Franchise? Sign? Dallas does none of these things in a considered, decisive fashion and players either get the advantage or get the hell out.
Old Man Yells At Changing Landscape:
Geno Auriemma is dead set against a proposed ‘one and done’ rule being implemented for women’s college ball. He recently whined, “If you want to kill it, then let the kids leave after freshman year. On the men’s side, it’s become transactional. Everybody’s a free agent.” Translation: I dearly love having all the power in this current relationship and I don’t want to work harder in a new environment. (Saban, Roy Williams, Coach K, Jim Calhoun and Boeheim beckon him to the retirement bench beside them)
