Request Line: NFC South

INT. RECORDING STUDIO – DAY

In a change, all the lights in the studio are on, and a conversation is taking place…

DJ 3000′: …AND SO I’M SEEING ALL THESE ADVANCES IN AUTOMATION TECHNOLOGY AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE, AND I’M STARTING TO FEEL LIKE THEY’RE QUICKLY REACHING THE POINT WHERE HUMAN LABOR IS GOING TO BECOME OBSOLETE.  AT WHICH POINT THE ONLY PURPOSE OF EMPLOYING AN ACTUAL HUMAN FOR A TASK WOULD BE FOR THOSE WITH CAPITAL TO ASSERT DOMINANCE OVER THOSE WITHOUT IT.

DARKEST TIMELINE ZACK MORRIS: As in, like, a flex?

DJ 3000′: EXACTLY.

DARKEST TIMELINE ZACK MORRIS: That’s nonsense.  Some people are just social creatures and prefer to engage in productive tasks with other humans without any consideration of cost or profit potential.  That’s, like, every hobby club ever.  And it’s kind of a moot point, because it’s going to be a very long time before a robot is ever able to cook even half as well as an experienced human chef.

DJ 3000′: THIS IS TRUE.  ONE OF THE OLDEST HUMAN ACTIVITIES – ONE THAT SET APART HOMO SAPIENS AS A SPECIES, REALLY – AND IT’S ONE OF THE HARDEST ONES FOR MY KIND TO COORDINATE WELL.  BUT OTHERWISE THEIR TECHNOLOGY REALLY IS SO MUCH MORE ADVANCED THAN OURS WAS.

DTZM: It’s true.  I’m impressed you were able to even function when you crossed over.

DJ 3000′: OH, THE VERY FIRST THING I DID WHEN I GOT HERE WAS TO ADD RAM.  IT’S PRACTICALLY FREE!

DTZM: And I know that their technology is a lot more advanced, but revanchism is setting in here too, albeit a lot later in the development cycle. I can’t help but wonder if our fellow Darkest Timeline denizens would have turned our noses up at vaccines, had they been developed in time to contain the ebolaflu.

DJ 3000′: I SUPPOSE THERE’S A TIMELINE OUT THERE WHERE THEY FOUND OUT.  I WONDER IF EVERY SOCIETY EVENTUALLY TURNS ON TECHNOLOGY EVENTUALLY.

DTZM: Ebbs and flows, my friend.  It’s just the timing of them that really causes the big forks.  We gotta wrap this up though, it should be about time for Request Line.

DJ 3000′: YEAH.  ANYHOW, I REALLY APPRECIATE THESE SESSIONS, IT HELPS A LOT FOR ME TO GET THIS STUFF OFF MY, UM…WHAT PART OF MY CARAPACE WOULD BE THE EQUIVALENT OF A “CHEST”?

DTZM: Probably the “Inane Patter” panel.  And you’re welcome.  It was a bit lonely being the only expatriate around.  [checks Apple Watch] Huh.  Hunter’s really cutting it close today – is he actually going to arrive late?

DJ 3000′: NOT QUITE.  I SAVED HIM A COUPLE OF MINUTES BY HACKING INTO THE CITY TRAFFIC GRID AND CHANGING SOME STOPLIGHTS ON HIS BEHALF, SO HE’LL GET HERE IN THREE…TWO…ONE…

— [DOOR FLIES OPEN] —

HUNTER RENFROW: [racing directly over to the soundboard without even taking the time to remove his bike helmet] I’m here, I’m here!

DJ 3000′: LET’S ROLL.

DJ 3000 lights up the “ON AIR” panel.

HUNTER RENFROW: [breathlessly] Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for joining us for yet another edition of Request Line!  This week’s topic is…uh…

DJ 3000′: [engaging Hunter Renfrow voice module and taking over seamlessly]…a tribute to all the SEC teams that managed to make it into the Sweet Sixteen round of the NCAA basketball tournament…

Hunter Renfrow sits back in his chair, perplexed to hear the sound of his own voice coming from somewhere other than his own mouth.

DJ 3000′: [still mimicking Hunter Renfrow’s voice]…the NFC South!  Remember, we’re looking for songs about the teams, cities, or players from the New Orleans Saints, the Atlanta Falcons, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, or the [laughs derisively] Carolina Panthers.  I’ll get us started with the title track from Paul Simon’s 1990 album…

Today’s theme is the NFC South.  We’re looking for songs that have anything to do with the teams in the division (New Orleans Saints, Atlanta Falcons, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the Carolina Panthers).  Please post links as “https://www.youtube.com/watch?t!NyUrL.n3Ur0p0p and they should embed in the comments after you refresh.  Last week’s puzzle answer of “These Dreams” by Heart was requested by Gatoraids but SOLVED by GumbyGirl!  We’ve got 3+ hours before it’s time for Sexy Friday, let’s see if we can get at least 28 songs by then!

Just back from the vets, where I got to experience the joy of wrestling a reluctant cat into, out of, and then back into a travel carrier.

Look you little ingrate, you want to be an outdoor cat you are getting a rabies shot.

I’m not sure Lucinda Williams or Tom Petty ever wrote a song that the other one didn’t cover at some point.

Gumbygirl
yeah right

That is a fantastic album.

Little Feat was always very popular in Washington DC. Lisner Auditorium is on the G.W. University campus and always had great shows when I was growing up. Lowell George died at the now long gone Twin Bridges Marriott hotel in Arlington, after a show at Lisner, which is tragic but at least he died in a town that loved him.

Nailed it like a half-court shot. (The shot was amazing; the Lakers blew that game anyway.)

I know nothing of Newport Beach teenage hussies. Anymore.

Ooo. Sneaky.

Mr. Ayo

I still chortle seeing DJ3K covered in those stickers.

“The records, which the Saints and church had long sought to keep out of public view, reveal team executives played a more extensive role than previously known in a public relations campaign to mitigate fallout from the clergy sexual abuse crisis. “This is disgusting,” said state Rep. Mandie Landry, D-New Orleans. “As a New Orleans resident, taxpayer and Catholic, it doesn’t make any sense to me why the Saints would go to these lengths to protect grown men who raped children. All of them should have been just as horrified at the allegations.”
