Notes and Comments
As I predicted last week, Adelaide and Geelong finished Top Two. Everything else got crazy. The craziness started with Gold Coast losing to Port Adelaide.
That meant that Gold Coast not only could not get a Top Four spot, but they could very possibly lose out on Finals altogether. Collingwood’s victory over Melbourne meant they had a really good chance of staying in the Top Four as long as GWS didn’t beat the crap out of the Saints and Brisbane beat the pants off the Hawks.

The Lions did beat the Hawks and will play Geelong in one Qualifying Final. GWS had some nervy moments but managed to beat St. Kilda by a slim margin to ensure a home Elimination Final. That meant that the other Qualifying Final would have Adelaide hosting Collingwood. Then, the stage was set for really the first match of Finals: Fremantle visiting Western.
Fremantle took care of business on the road to assure themselves of the other home Elimination Final. Now, Western’s fate rested on Essendon being able beat the Gold Coast Suns. Alas, it was not to be, so GWS will now host Hawthorn and Fremantle will host Gold Coast in the Elimination finals. Western makes history as the team with the highest percentage ever NOT to make finals!
The Tipping Pool is so friggin competitive! Almost everyone got 8 or 9 out of 10! Sharky is still on top! Remember that we go all the way until the Grand Final!
If you are a member of an AFL club or you got a Watch AFL membership, you should be able to watch every AFL and AFLW game, including replays. Game times vary between Australian afternoon and evening, which actually makes it easier for us in North America to watch as the games can be seeing in the evenings on Pacific Time and early mornings on Eastern time.
If you haven’t become a member of a club or signed up for the Watch AFL app, you can still watch the AFL and AFLW games in the USA on either FS1 or FS2 and in Canada on TSN. Showtimes can be found here on the Australian Football Association of North America website. But I do recommend that you join a club. It’s fun and they send you free shit.
See you next week!
