Another Tribute? Pfft, Yeah! – Sunday Offseason Etc. Etc.

Tomorrow will be the 6th anniversary of the death of The Wee Baby Seamus. Since tWBS’s passing, I’m afraid, he’s been posting less frequently. All of us are poorer for it, because there’s been no new material since the Lockdown. So, apologies from the start if this gets repetitive. But first:

A bit of bidness.

NFL NEWS

-The Steelers have their 2026 starting QB, Qaron Rodgers. This has to be his last season and Rodgers returns with no guarantees of extending plays beyond 2.5 seconds, which is great fodder to all fans who love 13-plus-snaps field goal drives and wish ill on the Stillers.

What else…

Bof. It really is May. Let’s stick with Rodgers.

As a work obsessive, I have to give props to late-career Qaron for actively seeking cushy employment, instead of settling for a barge full of money. Back in ’22, Denver hired, as head coach, Nathaniel Hackett—famously, Rodger’s butler in Green Bay. Rodgers stayed put that year because jeez: waaay needy courtship, Donks. Plus the spectRe of Hackett as head coach. Rodgers went to the Jets in ’23, along with a Hispanic-extended-family-sized posse of flunkies and waterboys. That sucked for Jets fans and management stans, but was a canny move by a new employee. Employers can provide many creative fringe benefits packages, but my guess is none compares with an RV full of enablers.

Last year under Mike Tomlin, Rodgers was understated because he is not dumb. Qaromn would never risk a confrontation with Tomlin, who does not tolerate shit from nobody *coughs* except the star WR or Le’Veon Bell. (Which I liked.)

Now, Rodgers has Mike McCarthy as HC. For the Stillers, the alternative to McCarthy was pairing Rodgers with an unproven young coach for a drama-filled 4th place in the AFC North, instead of a resigned decline with Capt. Bluebunny. McCarthy – Rodgers II seems like a glide into retirement for both, not a final push.

SPROTS TO MIGHT

All times Central.

GRANDES LIGAS

Padres (Giolito) @ Marineros (Kirby) – 6:20

TRAVELING 3s – Game 7

Cavaliers @ Pistons – 7:00

Winner goes to the Eastern Conference Finals against the Knicks on Tuesday.

FINALLY,

If forced to choose a single quality that defined tWBS, which would be difficult because how the hell can you reduce to one attribute a force of nature (which is three words BTW), who also happened to be a photographer serious about composition and a doting uncle AND a virtuoso shit stirrer adept with both the stick and the flamethrower—ANYWAY.

Doer, tWBS was a doer. He was truly a man of action. Mostly of impulsive, sometimes irritating action. Although the dude could talk, oh how he would talk. Really spin the yarn that guy 😝

tWBS was the sweetest hothead I’ve known. I miss him terribly. He had a huge heart, yooge; a very generous dude, which set tWBS apart. But I’m sure that, like me, all of you (knowingly or not), are blessed by having kind and concerned folks around your orbit; whether within family or other corners of Reel Lyf, or here on the web—“imaginarily”, as is said around these parts.

tWBS, it could be said, loved too much. But I don’t think you can feel love fractionally; it engulfs completely and can drown your judgment. When you act out of love, it’s with everything. It is not transactional, but genuine. So when you give your all and best, and it’s not corresponded, it’s easy to see that heartbreak is a fancy word for complete emotional wreckage.

Nobody owes love to anyone, and it’s easy to feel used and discarded after a nasty breakup. I remember tWBS going on about closure, but I knew what he meant and I said that you cannot shame someone to take you back, or plead with someone to show affection for you. Any caring would be out of obligation, which works for nobody middle-class or lower. He told me to fuck myself, which I deserved. Sometimes folks want to be heard and feel empathy, instead of being fed clichés or advice.

I’m sure tWBS received plenty of love from here in life, and never conditionally or out of obligation. That’s what he gave to this community. Rest in peace, man. Luv ya.

God he was a shitty poker player.

yeah right

It deserves repeating, Seamus died protecting his elderly and vulnerable mother.
Yeah his lifestyle got him to that point but he should have been very treatable.

Look again at the date and time.

This was in May of 2020 during the storm of the pandemic and there was no way in helll he was going to go to a hospital and risk an infection that he could bring home to possibly impact moms.

Sounds trite if you see it that way but I saw a son protecting his mother.

That’s a very Mark thing to do and I’ll believe that until the day I die.

God speed my brother.
Love you and miss you.

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

I’ve always thought of him as a casualty of the pandemic, even if it wasn’t COVID-19 itself that took him.

yeah right

Absolutely.

On a different note, it is fun that all my coworkers are feeling sorry for me when we discuss the upcoming NFL season.

A lotta pity coming my way…

You just gave me an idea for a sequel to pitch to the DFO Insiders: Bubba Don-Tep.

Well said, Don T!

I too had the “closure is bullshit” conversation with him to similar results.

He seemed to want to make up for some imagined transgression that he inflicted upon some girl or girls when he was younger and stupider. If only he had learned to forgive himself, he wouldn’t have drunk himself to death.

Which, let’s face it, is what happened. It’s not “too soon” anymore.

He was an amazing person, flaws and all, and I’m happy to have met him. He will certainly not be forgotten.

2Pack

Say not in grief he is no more,
But live in thankfulness that he was.

Gatoraids

Salute to keeping his memory alive and wrestling with it. I’m a few days away from last time I talked to a close friend a few years ago before he died in August. Kept meaning to reach out to him again but thought i was just being a burden to him even up to the week he died. Think last thing I told him he had to forgive himself like he’d forgive others and was never enough…

SonOfSpam

Lovely tribute to a dude gone much too soon.

Stupid sexy alcohol.

Mr. Ayo

Lots of folks are complaining about a Game 7 being on Amazon Prime.

I would counter that this is good, in that they have Taylor Rooks on the studio show.

blaxabbath

Detroit sure shat the home court advantage eh?

Mr. Ayo

Mom’s spaghetti did not get it done

WCS

I mean, it’s on his sweater instead. What do you want?

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

Detroit is not trying nearly hard enough given that their playoff lives are on the line.

rockingdog

Boom!!! 💥
Gavin’s Sheets 2 run HR! 💪

Padres lead 4-0
That’s ROCKINGGGG!!!

Mr. Ayo

I will respectably disagree on the “rocking” designation.

Found a funny:

COSTCO: here, try this

ME: oh yummy

COSTCO: so you like it?

ME: yes, it’s delicious

COSTCO: well, we don’t sell it anymore and you’ll never see it again.

rockingdog

Ty France with the RBI single!
Padres take the lead 2-0!!! ⚾️
That’s Rocking!!!!!

WCS

That was excellent, Don T. Very apt.

Wherever he is, he’s pissed we’re talking about him. He’ll get it over it quickly; there’s an attractive angle hostess he wants to go chat with on that cloud over there.

WCS

Welln, got awfully dusty in here all of sudden.

NO YOU’RE CRYING
