If I sound like a broken record it’s because I am but now we’re really, really in the sports doldrums if one is not a rugby and/or baseball fan. We’ve been here before of course and can’t say that we didn’t see it coming.
So to fill the void I went back to the NFL unsigned free agents list and grabbed a few names that might get signed eventually and threw some thoughts at them.
Clelin Ferrell:
Remember when Mike Mayock tried to be the talent assessor/GM that he pretended to be on the TV? He drafted this Edge guy 4th(!) overall for the Raiders. He’s never had more than 4.5 sacks in the league but to his credit has carved out for himself a nice little career as a fill-in rotational piece. A fair number of high draftees that shit the bed tend to disappear by the age of 26 but this fella, if he catches on, will play his age 29 season this year.
Bobby Wagner:
Every year I think this dude is done and he just keeps on contributing. At 36, he’s waiting for a training camp injury so that he can defy logic one more time.
Joey Bosa:
I think Mr. Bosa thinks that his value is far more than what the market has arrived at. 31 year-old Edges with a past history of success usually can be counted on to produce but he’s waiting for a specific price.
Keenan Allen:
This safety valve wr just keeps hanging around. He’s one of the players that seems lousy QB proof. He was brought in to the Chargers as a third wideout (and a bit of insurance after Quentin Johnson’s disastrous rookie season) and ended up leading the team in grabs. I’ve always thought teams shied away from him because he was oft-injured but he’s played in 13 or more tilts every year since his age 25 season.
Greg Van Roten:
Who? Well I know him because he played for the Giants-that Giants team that has had a lousy offensive line going on a decade or so. If you can’t get a one year deal from New York you must really suck.
Jamal Adams:
Remember this specimen? He was a safety/LB hybrid that stood out like a sore thumb on a Jets defense that didn’t have anything else going for it. Seattle was so enamored that they gave away two(!) 1st rounders to have him Go West. He got the big contract and then did his Wile Coyote and his play fell off a cliff.
That’s all for me. Do that thing.
