The first week is already going swimmingly:

- Really, they should be concerned by my general aggression than the odd word I might slip in.
And today was the actual first day of teaching. It was remote learning today, then half the students Thursday – A through L – and the other half Friday. Then a full class starting Monday.
On top of that, I’ve already had to initiate three (!) grievances related to class schedules for teachers who were assigned to things they can’t necessarily fulfill.

- There’s wrestling – AEW is on TNT right now!

Before the pandemic I worked for seven months in Montreal. I was born and raised in Arlington VA and highly educated in Washington DC and was working out of Los Angeles, so I’ll be honest that I did not consider them my intellectual equals. And they weren’t. But most of the Québécois were some of the nicest people I’ve ever met in my life, and I’m still telephone friends with quite a few of them.

Watched a replay of the French-language debate. They spent the first ten minutes hammering Trudeau about why he called the election. Then they went after O’Toole about releasing the costs for his plan two hours before the debate. After that, Trudeau & the Bloc leader argued over who was more “Quebec”. The others just stood there & watched.
Tomorrow’s debate should have lots of fireworks, at least for a Canadian debate.

When I lived in Venice CA I had huge spiders in my back yard who each night at dusk would build enormous spider webs that I would study and they were engineering marvels.

Here’s a link to the most amazing concert film ever.
It’s the “T.A.M.I Show” which in this version is called “Teenage Command Performance” (that’s because of rights issues and ownership changes) but this version is the complete film and pretty good quality.
The music line-up is extraordinary and the house band is “The Wrecking Crew” from Phil Spector’s studio sessions. The music director is Jack Nitzsche, who chose all the acts.
All of these artists are in their prime; some would have long great careers, and some would have tragic lives.
Everything (picture and audio) was shot live. Nothing is faked or “sweetened” so what you see and hear is authentic.
It was shot over two days in October 1964 (that’s why you’ll see the audience change) and the only editing they did was assemble the best performances. This was not a TV show, it was a concert film for theatrical release, yet it was shot with pioneering HDTV cameras that were then converted to 35mm film. When each act starts they get about ten minutes and is absolutely live.
James Brown’s performance is legendary, and The Rolling Stones follow him and you can see how they were.

Oh, I have seen it, and agree that it’s great. I think that the impact of things upon you based upon your age and the particular time in which you are exposed those things has a definite effect on how important it seems at that time. SMS hit just at the right time and place for me.
These are astonishing good performances. That’s why they were recorded, and very well. That attitude is like not liking The Wizard of Oz (1939) because it wasn’t made in 1980.
I had older siblings and cousins. I was totally into this kind of stuff. We used to dance in front of the tv when good bands came on Ed Sullivan!
As an only child/military brat whose cousins were pretty inaccessible due to my dad’s duty stations, I had a different experience growing up. I had to discover rock and roll by myself (with the help of my schoolmates).
